Wiring Harness Mess

Wiring Harness Mess
I'm swapping a 1990 302 EFI into a 1995 f150. The 1995 had a 300 EFI in it. I have two complete trucks and am basically just switching engine bays. What is the best way to integrate the 302 harness in the 1995 engine bay? The firewall connections appear to be different. Also the 1990 harness does not have the Power Distribution Box like the 1995. Is it possible to just swap the ECU wiring? I'm hoping to keep it just a plug and play operation.

I think the F150 went to OBD2 in 1995.
You are getting yourself in a real uh, spithole, yeah that's it.
Since you really need to scrap and start over for a plug and play swap, you may as well find a 95-96 351 from an F150 and make the swap worthwhile.
"Upgrading" for 2 cubic inches and a wiring mess is a bad thing. If you just want to swap trucks and convert the 95 back to older wiring system, that's your call.

Is it possible to just swap the ECU wiring and leave the other half? It appears there are 2 systems taped together...one that controls the engine and the other that handles the accessories and lights. This may involve unwrapping some of the harness to separate them. Just install the ECU with the corresponding plug in's to handle the engine management...is this possible?
Thanks guys!

That certainly is possible. One thing you would have to account for is the wires coming from the engine harness to the rest of the harness. Such as oil pressure, water temp, and tach signal for the gauges, and fuel pump control and monitor wires, plus all power, ground, speed sensor, etc etc. If there is a plug in between the computer and these other interfaces, it would be just a matter of matching up the wire functions.
A 95 engine harness should match up to the underhood harness, but I don't know how similar the connections are between the '90 and the '95. That's my reasoning behind suggesting a '95 V8 harness.

I suppose I could pull some things apart and see how do-able it is. I'm not scared of wiring some stuff together. If it is only a few gauges that need connections...thats easy. I bought the whole donor truck for 250 dollars so I don't have much to lose. I was curious if someone had done it before and had a secret they would share. I have a chilton's so I will blow up a few wiring diagrams and get at it. It's my first swap so its a learning experience. My main goal is to use as much as I can off the donor before I go buy more.

hey Alfred...go read up on what some guys make the poor little 5.0 do in a mustang. It is a potent little mill with a few speed parts bolted on (vast quantities of cheap parts). its also considerably lighter than the 5.8. (power to weight ratio). Put gears in my 1995 2wd Reg Cab Short Box 5.0 5 speed and it will move. It's a street truck.

84 f350 swap
i did a efi swap in my 84 f350, it was a carberated 351w, with 3 dropped valve seats i bought the truck for 350, and the first engine for 50, a 69 ford motor sports engine. a friend offered me a deal, his 89 conversion van to swap motors for him, i merged the two systems together, two fuse panels, one orgional running everthing but the engine and one to run the engine, it was the easiest swap since i did not at the time have wiring diagrams for the van. i now have a 84 f350 with a 5.0 efi and a c6 trans, full vrew cab, 2 ft tool box behind cab, and a 9 ft flatbed. i have a dana 70 rear axle and i get 15 MPG!! anything is possible if you try it. my nest projects are 3 mustangs, one gets a 460 (1967) gomma make it a 555 soon enough as well, one getting a 1991 5.0 HO EFI (1968), and one is still undecided at this moument (1967).
