434/ 400 stroker update

Currently we are waiting for an intake manifold.

Here are some specs for your Desk top Dyno people.

Cam is a Hyd. Roller:

Intake Exhaust
Valve Lift .579" .591"
Lobe lift .341 .348
Duration @ .050 216 224

Valve Timing Open Closes
Int. 0 BTDC 36 ABDC
Ex. 40 BBDC 4 ATDC

Lobe Seperation 108

http://www.tmeyerinc.com/351Caluminumheads.htm

The above link has the head flow numbers, we did a little unshrouding of the intake so our low lifts should be better.

4.030" bore / 4.250" stroke

Lets see what you guys get.

Tim,
What are the seat-to-seat timing specs for that cam. I need to get the ramp rate.

Also are there any updates to the head flow as a result of the work around the valves?

OK, this is what I came up with using DynoSim. It has a few more tools than DD2K.

The head flow that I used is what Tim published on his website for the CHI-3V heads. I know that he did some valve work on those heads, so the results could be better than what I simulate. Also the ramp rate on the cam is in question, but I used what DynoSim gave me.

The Torque @ 2000 RPM is 435 ft-lbs, and it peaks @ 495 ft-lbs @ 4000 RPM. The Peak Horsepower is 426@5000 RPM.

I know that these figures can be a lot higher with better head flow at low lift, and/or faster cam ramp rates.

If I use the CHI published head flow, I get:
Torque=429@2000 RPM and 532@4500 RPM, HP=513@5500 RPM.

Both simulations were with a single plane intake and a 750CFM carb. A Dual Plane intake will boost the Torque at 2000 RPM quite a bit.

Eric,

Building my own is more fun, but my budget is limited. Driving it is the most fun. If gas were $1.00/g, I would do a lot more of that.

Tim, have you made any more progress on the 400 stroker? Just wondering.

Dan,

Try that with an 850cfm carb. When we talked to Demon about my 408ci combo, they told us to use an 850. So, we had a 850 Street Demon built for it.

With a 850 CFM carb, I get 439 ft-lbs torque@2000 RPM, and peak 495 ft-lbs torque@4000 RPM. The peak HP is 450@5500 RPM.

I am having a problem reproducing the previous numbers. Something else must have changed in the file. I will check later.

That cam is not that radical. If I were looking for big HP, then a bigger cam would help. As it is it will be a good low and mid range motor, especially with a dual plane intake.

No that cam isn't all that radical, especially for a roller. My hydro flat tappet has a 108º LSA and the lift is around .600". If I can ever get my cam card from my no account builder who never answers my calls......I plan to switch to CHI or AFD heads in a couple of years with a solid roller cam and an A9L EEC-VI based EFI, much like what you are working. Tim's stroker kit has me thinking about another EFI 400 for a future project....possibly a Montego GT with a Tremec or a 1971-72 Maurader X-100 look-a-like with a Tremec (nothing like a big car with a stick).

With the numbers you are getting, it is starting to p!ss me off a little more with my engine builder. He pulled over 350@5000 on 1/2 throttle and then 426@5000 on 2/3 throttle but would never get off his butt and make the final pulls.....geez I wished I had some final numbers! I'm sure it is close to if not over 500hp at around 6000rpm or so....I did get to hear it pull to 6000 one time but he was not logging data....boy did it sound nasty, alot like an old Cup motor from the late 80's or even an old Trans-Am motor from the 80's.

Well guys here's the best I have so far. We are waiting for the intake manifold to arrive. I did not have another order for CHI, so I had to wait for it to be shipped with someone else's order. Sounds like it will be shipped Mon or Tue.

Next problem is we are closing the machine shop (temp.) for a few weeks. As some of you may know, we had a fire a few months ago. The roof comes off Mon. So I will be spending the time cleaning and answering the phone.

I will keep everyone up the best I can.

Danlee, I kept the cam down for a couple reasons. One is the power fell in the lower RPM band which will make it more reliable over the long haul. Also the torq band seem to be flat and carry over a wide range of rpm. Keep in mind this is going in a 3000lb car.
