I don't exactly understand what "eating Fords lunch in warranty claims" means... maybe I'll tell a few stories of some of the odd 6.0 problems that I've seen... '03 F250 stalled and would not restart, had no oil in the resevoir, engineering told our guy (not me) to remove the low pressure oil pump, and to replace the pump and front cover because of scoring in the pump housing-didn't fix it... next, remove upper and lower oil pans to check for cracks in the pick-up tube-didn't fix it... next remove transmission and rear timing cover to see if oil gallery plugs had fallen out of the block-didn't happen... while the trans. was out, he removed the IPR to find metal particles then replaced the high-pressure pump and filter housing-fixed the problem... total down time of the truck was just over a week, and 40 hours worth of labor billed to Ford. Seems that the majority of the problems that plague these engines and cause alot of down time and repeat concerns are due to diagnostic procedures not leading us to the actual problem... then it just becomes a game of darts... sometimes you hit the bullseye...sometimes you don't... I have more stories, but my fingers are tired.
