285/70R17's for F350

I ordered some Goodyear MT/R's back in July from Tirerack. Well they finally got here last week. I wanted a good aggressive tire and as we all know there isn't squat for the 18" wheels on 05 F350's. I decided to go to the 17" size for more options. The 285/70R17's are just a hair shorter than the stock 275/70R18's. Load range suffers however. 3195#'s @ 65psi vs 3640#'s @ 80psi. Side by side they look almost the same. I was able to get a set of 17" Lariet wheels on the cheap. I'll have to put a few miles on them to see how they handle.

Those are some pretty nice tires. Hopefully they work out for you.

P.S. I changed your pictures to links. A little bit nicer for the dial-up users.

I'm only going to use the MT/R's during hunting season. Maybe one month a year. They should last awhile that way. I got tires comming out my, well you know...

4 Conti on steel wheels
4 Conti on XLT alum wheels
4 MT/R's on Lariet wheels
2 Dunlop Muds on Lariet wheels (left over from my 99)
3 Conti left over from the wife's Tribute

My shed is full....

2005 F-250 FX4 Lariat Crew Cab 6.0L

I'm thinking about getting the same tires for my 2005. I tried 285/75/16 (same overall size as yours) MTR on my 2000. I had them taken off because the shop could not get the shake out of the steering wheel at 65+ mph. I went back to BFG ATs. How do yours do at highway speeds?

There is some road noise. I kinda figured there would be. I can live with it. On the highway, they handle just fine. No wobbles or anything. I've had them up to 85mph. They do give the truck a squishy feeling of sorts only when you jog the stearing wheel back and forth. Kinda like the truck is sitting on marshmellows. Those big lugs do pick up every rock in the road and flings them off. So far I'm happy. We'll see how they do when I'm loaded up for hunting in a couple weeks.

That "squishy" feeling will probably go away after those big lugs get worn down a little bit. All of the off-road tires I've ever used had that same feeling when new.

Just an update. Checked MPH with my GPS. At 70mph on the speedo, the GPS is reading 67mph. I never checked the truck with the stock tires so I don't know if the speedo was ever dead on.
