Talking Got a question

When I've gotten the oil changed on my truck they've never asked me what kind I want to use, they just change it. Today I was asked if I wanted to use the one recommended by Ford (I have a 2003 F150 Triton V-8) and I said yes. Well, when I got home I got my butt royally chewed for letting them use 5W-20 Motor Oil. I was also told by the "expert" in my home that I would burn up my truck with this oil.
So this may sound like a dumb question (but I'm old, I'm blonde and female--what can I say), but what do most of you use in your F-150's?
Thanks for feedback.

Use the motorcraft 5-20 synthetic blend for max fuel economy (if you can call it that on a V-8!)

There's a bunch of info (probably more than you want to know) down at the oil&lube forum.

Welcome to FTE.

Actually, the temps here are very hot. Right now running from high 90's to just above 100 Degrees.
Hey thank all for the information.
I really love my truck. While I've thought about going back to driving a car because of the cost of gas, I just can't bring myself to do it.

I use 5w30 in my 4.6 liter. I would continue to use the 5w20 or maybe go up to a 5w30 in yours. The dealer wont put anything in there but 5w20, but if you go anywhere besides the dealer you should be able to choose what weight you want them to put.

I use regular valvoline 10w30 in my truck, seems to work just as fine as any, althought when I go synthetic, I might change it up.

Cheif at autozone here told me to stick with the same oil. not weight but synthetic or not, he said they had diff. coagulants (sp?) and would be worse if I switched half way through the engines life.
