what gas mileage are you getting?

Man, i ain't getting anywhere near that much! I get about 450 KM's (if I'm lucky) for a tank in my '02 Super Cab. If my math is right, i work that out to be about 14 MPG. I got 285's X 16's on it with a soft tonneau cover. I also added a Predator and played with a few of the settings, one being the speedo setting. I did check the speedo after with my GPS and it is bang on. I use the 98 octane high test over here, and have advanced the timing slightly. I wonder if the temps have anything to do with things because the average temps at the moment are hovering around the high 30's - low 40's Celcius (95F - 104F). No other mods at the moment, but a K&N is in the works. Anyone have any suggestions as to why my MPG's are so low? More importantly, any suggestions on how to increase my MPG's. Although gas prices over here are cheaper then they are at home, we just had a 33% increase in fuel prices across the board so anything will help.
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

That 98 octane is probably hurting you. It burns much slower and without the high compression, it is costing power and efficiency. You may try advancing the timing some more and if a lower octane fuel is available, try it.
My 01 SCAB 5.4L OFFROAD 4x4 3.55LS 265/70 17" tires with a Predator gets about 13.5 in town and 15 on the highway. It wasn't much less with the stock tune.

hey LX,
like usual, you always seem to have your finger on the pulse, however your comments surprised me. i had no idea that 98 octance would be "bad" for my truck. I could drop to a 95 octance fuel, that would def. help with fuel costs. However, were you suggesting to advance the timing AND go to a lower octane fuel or were you suggesting to do one or the other?
One thing i did forget to mention was that with the temps we experience here during summer months, the air con is on 99.99% of the time. i know this will reduce fuel mileage but would it reduce that dramatically?
What I am trying to get at is that before the Predator i seemed to be getting better fuel mileage(I seem to recall closer to 500 KM's a tank), however that was during our winter months when temps are lower (high teens to mid 20's C) OR did the install of the Predator with the few minor changes I made to some of the settings (adjusted shift points and advanced the spark) have anything to do with the reduced fuel mileage.
At closer look, I seem to be getting closer to 400 KM's for a tank (last tank I got 410 KM's) not like the 450 KM's I had previously mention. Regardless, I would like to get my fuel mileage closer to 500 KM's a tank if possible.
again, any advise is welcomed.

I have a 03 Screw 4x4, 5.4, 3.55 gears and have a hard tonneu cover. Normal highway driving at 110km/h is 19 mpg. On a recent camping trip pulling a 19 1/2 foot holiday trailer, with the overdrive off and fully loaded with gear, it ran at 13.7 mpg with the cruise set at 110 km/h. Also the tire size is stock (LT245/75r16) and no mods to the engine yet. Will be installing K&n filter and Flowmaster 40 series muffler soon.
