Bed Removal on a 74 F250

I'm in the process of removing the bed on my 74 F250 to Por-15 the frame and suspension, but can't seem to get all of the bolts off. There is one at the front-left corner of the bed that does not have a nut holding it on underneath the bed because of the aux. gas tank. The bolt has what appears to be a large slot in the head for a philips screwdriver. I have a philips close to the size, but there is no way I can get enough leverage to loosen that rusty thing. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove it?

I've never taken the bed off, but it looks like you just remove the 6 bolts for the bed, disconnect the gas hoses from the filler necks, and unplug the rear taillight wiring harness. Am I missing anything else?

Thanks
Chris

I don't have my truck here at work with me so I cant go look real quick. Wont be home till tomorrow.
As I remember my 76, I recall what you said, just the main bed bolts/nuts. Now with an Aux tank, I don't know as I didn't have an Aux. On the one screw you referred to with the philips head, maybe you can heat and bend an old screw driver with a torch and bend a ninety into it. That would give you more leverage.
Good Luck, I'm sure someone with better visuals will chime in soon.

That's pretty much all there is to it... I would reccomend buying new hardware, and cutting the old ones out. That's what I did with my 77, and it took about 45 minutes to get it off.

I took a grider to the bolt heads inide the bed and they pretty much fell thru with little effort...

you have essentially a big fender clip under the chassis that the screw head cariage bolt screws into, you have a few options here ....

you can go under the truck and break the clips so you can remove the bed and then remove the remainder of the clip and the bolt after the bed is off the truck ...

you can weld a nut to the cariage bolt and remove the bolt that way...

you can cut a second notch in the cariage bolt and nock the head off the cariage bolt....

you can grind or torch off the head of the cariage bolt....

Good luck ...

just buy the right tool to do it. you need a phillips bit that goes on a 1/2'' rachet they cost 5.99 at most. i put mine on my impact wrench and removed them like that.
