If it's wired the same as my 87 You need 12 volts on the red/yellow wire from the dash switch to the dimmer switch.
Which switch did you replace.
Have you got a wiring diagram?

I replaced the pull switch on the dash, and I purchased a headlight/power door locks relay, but I can't find the old one to install it.

Are you sure this has a headlight relay?
Take a look a Autozone.com for an online wiring diagram.
If theres no relay, you need to pull the plastic shroud off of the steering column & check voltage at the multifunction/dimmer switch.
