Don't listen to Fergie, he smoked a lot in his youth and it's affected his thinking.
You're certainly not REQUIRED to name your truck. If you don't, we'll do it for you. Sooner or later, somebody will probably give it a nickname (especially if it is a little different) and you'll be stuck with it. Far better to name it yourself first!

So I've been thinking of a name and came up with two options....
The first is Shemp. A little odd. A little different. Under-appreciated. Yet still a classic.
The second is Charles. This way I could use forms of the name under different circumstances like...
The wife and I took Charles out to dinner.
Charlie and I took a load to the dump.
Chuckie better behave and let me fix these king pins.
Chaz went for a cruise.

I've had my truck for five or so years now, I don't call It anyting but "The Panel" I also call my dog, Dawg. There is always the chance that I did at one time have a "Name" for It that I have now forgotten. If so it must not have been very significant.
You, as a Newbie, should pick a name and use it frequently, that way the folks (other than me) will remember it and should you ever reach the stage of mental capacity that I have reached the folks around here can help you out.
Ferggy has Elvira
Earl has George
And so on

I have to admit at times my baby has been referred as POS or S**T Box and I have cussed it well...but its not her fault, just the previous owner's. It's TRUE LOVE..90% of the time. Her name is the BEAST!! And no its not required....but when you swear at the truck, it is easier to refer to it in the 2nd person..."She is a ... You are a..."
I hope the language context is correct....I am a met major, not english!!!!

"Patches" got his name because he is the best pieces I have been able to find laying around. Just like a quilt. He has a few F6 parts, parts from "Pieces" a F1 that had seen better days, and a few pieces from trucks at a local salvage yard, not to mention Ebay.

My F1 is Bubba and the F2 is Cletus. Next one gets named Roscoe. My wife thought they looked like somthing a only a hardcore redneck would be seen wtih (given their present conditions) hence the names. Naming them helps her and the rest of the family keep them straight when I'm talking about them.

Truck names
Often vehicles name themselves, either for the way they look or what they do - noise, vibrations, etc.. I had a '62 Galaxie everyone called the Ch*** Des******" after a good skid on the ice in the high School parking lot that ended up totalling a General Motors product. One look at Moby explains the first option. Give it time.
