A/C Question

89 F-150 302
I know this question probably belongs in a different section, I'm not having any luck there.
Anybody know if the A/C clutch is adjustable? If so, what is the procedure? For more detailed info on my problem see my post from a couple of days ago in the A/C forum on FTE.

Its really hot in this black truck--any help would be appreciated!

I would say no since it magnetically drawn together. Once there is no materal to provide grip thats it.

CLUTCH A coupling that transfers torque from a driving to a driven member. The A/C compressor clutch transmits torque from the engine to the compressor through a drive belt, causing the compressor shaft to rotate. The clutch contains a strong electromagnet that locks (engages) the clutch when it is energized.

I copied the above off an a/c website. I would agree with ford4.9. The clutch being a (2) piece arrangement, one inside the other, I would think there is a fixed distance between the two. I would also think the inner hub would need to stay centered. Clutches are replaceable, though.

Air gap between pulley and hub is controlled by shims at installation and should be O.021 to 0.036" at the smallest point around the hub. Could be enough wear to make it slip- it is a friction clutch and can be replaced. It requires a special tool to remove and install; It is available at parts stores. Does not require disturbing refrigerant system to replace clutch or pulley bearing. Hope this helps.

That's a relief that I won't have to discharge the system to replace the clutch. How about adding shims to get my gap set right? Is that an option? If not, any idea on how much a new clutch costs? Can I get it at Autozone, or will it be a Ford dealer part?
