1991 F150 Stalls When Hot...Sometimes

The truck is a 1991 F150 with the 5.0L v8. When its hot outside is will sometimes begin to sputter and backfire then stall. Will sometime start right away but will only idle, trying to accelerate will cause it to die. If it sits for 30 minutes it will start and run fine util everything begins to heat up again. I have repalced the fuel filter and check the gas lines. They are run away from all extreme heat sources. The check engine light is funtional but is not coming on. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you

Try looking at my thread: Tell Tale? Symptoms... I think it may be related to the TFI module.

What did it turn out to be?

Please post the solution? My truck has similar symptoms.

Could it be the coolant temp sensor?

That is just above the thermostat housing, just below the distributor...

Solution to my problem

As strange as it may sound, I fixed my problem when I found corroded wires going to the frame mounted fuel pump. The wires ran behind a diagonal bar in the frame, and were out of sight. The insulation was breached where the wire rubbed the steel, and the wires were corroded. For some reason I can't explain, the connection was good when the truck was cool, but when it warmed up (either by running, or by heating from the warmth of mid-day) it would die, and not start again.

Check your fuel pressure.
