Cool Sleeping in your Superduty

I have to sleep in my truck from time to time, waiting at docks to go offshore etc.The seatbelts dont fold down and stick you right in the back, even my dog cant lay down comfortably.Does this annoy anyone else? My truck is a 2000, do the newer SD's have seatbelts that fold down? I guess they do this so folks wont have an excuse not to wear them, but they should have something better, especially in a work truck.

A buddy of mine went had a dually and went to a RV customizer and re-engineered the rear seat to lay out into a full size bed with one push of a button. Basically the bed was on some sort of track and the seat portion went forward until is touched the front seats and the seat back followed until it was completely flat.

I dont sleep in it enough to actually do that, but it would be cool.I have a supercab and i want to take out the bottom part of the back seat out and have a sub woofer box made that would double as a seat also.

V10KLZZ71,

You're sleeping in the SuperCab portion? Jeez...I tried that once and I decided that the space back there is best for children, midgets, or contortionists. No way in heck is my 6'1" frame gonna get comfortable on that little cushion!

On my SuperCab seats, the seatbelts will just stuff between the seatback and the bottom cushion.

Wait..reading your post I can't tell if you're crashing out in the front, or back...but even in the front I can shove the 'female' seatbelt buckle upwards and stuff if between the center console and the driver or pass. seat. Now with the center console up, the front 'bench' makes a nice bed for sleeping, among other things!

The rear seat in question is available on E-Bay for crew cabs only. Do a search on E-Bay under "Superduty Seat".

I use a cap/topper, and put an air mattress in the bed - works great for camping...

Other than that, I have no idea how to help you.

One thing, in my '01, the seat belt "females" can be tucked down between the seats, but I have the 40/60 split front seat... At least, I'm pretty sure they can, I've "lost" the driver's belt female between the seats a few times.

I'm with krewat on that one. I just use my camper shell/topper if needed. I used to take naps in my supercab at work though. It was cramped (I'm 6-3) but never stopped me from catchin' some zzz's while on break.

Another idea (that I actually did). Put a dvd player in your truck, and plop in the back seat with your legs kicked up over the center console. It's pretty comfortable and having some entertainment (ps2, movies, etc) helps pass the time when you're waiting on someone or something. And if you're out and about and happen to get stuck in traffic, pop in a movie. Makes dealing with traffic much easier...

Sleeping in the bed is out..[skeeters].Sometimes when I have a long drive home from being offshore and I had to work all night I have to pull over and nap. Most of the time I have so much stuff behind the front seat that it will make a good bed.But the front seat is where i usually sleep.I just wad up a pair of coveralls or something around the seatbelt to cushion it.

I had a cap on my old truck and that was awesome with the air bed. Don't have it on this truck, but a cot and a mosquito net from an Army / Navy surplus store will do ya okay. Can find those pretty cheap, if ya don't want to replace seats.

All three seat belts in my front fold down (02 350 SC). Making an ok bed, as long as i don't stay in one spot to long. The humps where the seat edges are get to me after awhile. The trick with having a lot of clothes stuffed between the back seat and front seat does make the back a pretty comfortable place to sleep, surprisingly enough.
