Intermittent buzz near #7 or #3 spk plug?

Hi, I'm new here and want to say THANKS for all the posts on how to fix your truck. I've already learned enough to save a LOT of $$$.

I've got a 2000 super cab with a 5.4, 4X4.

My truck has a loud intermittent buzzing/whining sound near the fuel rail schrader valve (passenger side) of the engine. It winds down when I shut off the engine, when it's making noise. This is intermittent, sometimes at startup for a few minutes (cold), sometimes at idle I hear it at a stop sign. This is when it will "wind down" when I shut the engine off (hot).
I did notice that sometimes my headlights will dim just slightly for s half-second when coasting to a stop sign...and I can hear the buzzing. Can't tell if its electircal or mechanical.
Anyone hear of this or know what it is or how to fix it if it's not normal?
Thanks for your help.
Mike

Sounds like it is your pcv valve.

Yep, replace the PCV valve. Also check the hose ends for being sucked together.

Hi, thanks much for the help. I replaced the PCV...that thing really buzzes! Loudest one I've heard.

Be sure to use a Motorcraft PCV valve.

Hi. I have a 2000 Expedition, and had the same buzz. I thought it was the Alternator or something electrical. I had the alternator checked and it was fine. So i figured I wouls tackle that some other time. 2 weeks ago I changed the air filter and the PCV valve. within the last week I >noticed< that I no longer heard that whine. I NEVER would have associated with the PCV change.

THANKS AGAIN to this forum and its users

Hey, thanks again. I'll try to find a local source (non-dealer) for a Motorcraft one.
Now that the PCV buzz is gone, I can hear another buzz from my alternator, I think. But not as bad as the PCV.
...and now to find a decent price for a replacement door lock actuator...the one with 2 plugs on it and no rivet.
