Honestly, just pay the money to get the gears done.
You will have a VERY hard time finding a matching set of 4.10 axles for an F-150. It was an uncommon factory ratio. In addition, you have no idea what condition the gears will be in, and you may be getting an axle with several hundred thousand miles on it already.
Spend the money to get the job done right - shortcuts like that may save you money in the short term but will almost always cost more in the long run.
