making winter windshield wiper fluid from summer fluid?

Has anyone ever added alcohol (such as ethyl or propyl from the drugstore), or something else, to summer type windshield fluid, so the summer fluid can be used in winter? Or adding alcohol, or whatever, to winter fluid so it is good to
-20 degrees rather than 0 degrees. HEET(and others) makes an additive (which I think includes methyl alcohol), but no one here has heard of any additives. Thanks.

I would think that you could mix together winter and summer washer fluid and be just fine.
It seems like for me it doesnt matter. Even with winter fluid, my windshield washer sprayers seem to freeze-up every time!

Thanks. I was trying to see if I could make something to prevent the freeze-up mentioned. My guess is the store bought additive may be restricted in some states, for environmental reasons.

Back when I worked at the dealers, all they did was mix the regular washer fluid with water 50/50 for the summer, straight for winter.

One of the places I worked at the truck garage manager got this real cheap fluid that froze, and he added something (methonal?). Towards the next fall the paint was coming off the trucks.
