no oil pressure at low rpm's

i have a 89 bronco with a 302 ,auto trans and 148000 miles. the oil pressure drops to 0 after the truck runs for 10/15 min. when it is still cold you have great oil pressure.but only when the motor is under 1000 rpm's. get it over 1000 rpms and you get oil pressure. the guy i got it from said it has a new oil pumpin it (15000/20000 miles ) the guy said the truck was doing that before the new pump and now same thing again. any thaughts? need new pump?

any leaks? If there is a leak, that would cause low pressure. Also, what weight of oil are you using? Maybe try a heavier oil..

are you going off of the stock gauge? if so those never work. get yourself a real mechanical gauge that will show you actually whats going on. also try running 20-50 oil. your not running synthetic are you?

What kind of oil filter are you running? I had the exact same thing happen to me after installing a Fram filter from Walmart.... My oil pressure returned after changing it out for a purolator..

I'm not so sure I'd jump on the heavier oil till I tried a new filter, I was running 10/30 in mine and the pressure came right back to normal after I trashed the crappy filter.

The Fram oil filters are total crap. Put in a Motorcraft FL-1A and then check the pressure with a known accurate shop gauge.

Then go out and buy yourself a MECHANICAL oil pressure gauge......this way you will know for real what the pressure is.....it should be......@2000 RPM it should be 45-60PSI warm.

Here you go

Those are Auto-meter Phantom's and the oil pressure gauge is a mechanical one.....the trans temp and water temp are both short sweep electrical units.

Click on the link at the bottom of the page for more pictures of the gauge
set -up in my 93. Both the stock oil pressure and stock water temp were **** canned several months ago.

They are from Husky. Here is a link. They are not all one, but it is three pieces....one on each side and one for the center hump.

my 81 bronco did that if you havent figured it out yet i would look at the timeing gear i think most stock ford timeing gears have that plastci crap on it. on mine it started to come off and not onely it screwed up my oil pump but cloged most of my oil ports in the crank and cam if all eles fails look at that you migh be harming thing much worse than your oil pump
