I have seen the fumoto valve and I like the Fram Sure Drain system better. It has a valve which does not have any exposed working parts to be damaged or struck and accidently knocked open. It also has a protective cover that goes over it to protect it between oil changes. The part number for the 04-05 F150 with the 5.4L3v is: SD-2.

are you sure that's for a full change with 7 quarts of oil for our 5.4's? Because alot of times you see oil change prices that are only good for up to 5 quarts, additional quarts are extra.

I hate to get into the oil filter debate, but I give you guys some info and you can make up your own minds. I you know that the newfilters end with and "s" in the part #, and you know it stands for silicone. Did you ever wonder why they switched it? It's beacuse there where instabces of the valve sticking in cold climates and causing the filter to blow apart. As far as I know only Motorcraft filters use it. As far as syn. oils if your using 5w-20 Motorcraft oil, it's a semi-syn blend oil.

actually no not at all. the silicone valve is the drain back valve that is it. not the bypass valve. it is to prevent oil returning to the pan. also the filters have a burst pressure of 330 psi and will not burst the oil pump has a release about 80 psi or so.

Hi Ford390gashog. Nice post, but I doubt it will work.
We can keep trying, but the myth of the filter exploding because of problems in the filter will never die.
I'm nominating it for 'Urban Legend' status.

kd4crs, I've read that the Fram oil drain is slow. Is this true? How slow?
I would expect hot 5-20 to pour pretty fast. How long is the hose that comes with it?
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
It takes several minutes for the 7 quarts to come out through the hose on the Sure Drain adapter. The hose that it comes with is only 12 inches long but you can take that off and replace it with whatever length you need. I usually start the oil draining and then vacuum out the truck while I'm waiting for the oil to drain. By the time I'm done, the oil has finished running out and I'm ready to finish up. I just like the design of the Sure Drain and the fact that it has a cover to put on it to protect it.

Thanks kd4crs, good info.

I agree with your thoughts. The other 'quick drain' solutions always scare me a little.

If the local stores have one, I may pick one up. About due for an oil change, and it sounds like a decent add on.

And cheap enough I can change my mind if I want.

You vacuum the truck during an oil change?
You must be one neat worker. I can just think about changing the oil and I get grimy...

Chris,
I picked mine up at Advance Auto for $12.96. I know what you mean about getting dirty, I have some lightweight coveralls I use, they get dirty, I don't. I take them off when I'm vacuuming the truck. I think those grey seats are self-soiling!
