What would your ultimate diesel pickup be?
Just food for thought as technology and the global economy is always coming up with changes. My truck would be
1) 3/4 Ford SD truck.
2) Cummins or CAT motor.
3) 6-speed automatic Allison transmission.
Just interested to see what other people would want. Anything currently NOT available is game. Happy posting

Your question was what Diesel pickup, so I will stick to that because there are some real neat medium duty trucks I would be looking at if I won the lottery.
As far as pickups, the one in my signature is perfect. I love the way the moonroof lighs up the cab. I would change the white Lariat guages out and that's about it.
For a Diesel I would have some huge Cat putting out obscene amounts of power coupled to a big Allison automatic that could take it. Even though I believe the 5.9 Cummins to be the most durable diesel currently available, I do not like the drivability of it. Both PSDs and Duramaxs feel better to me and of course my new 3 valve V10 feels the best of all. Take care Wrenchtraveller.

I have two that I would want. If I could afford them I'd own 'em both.
Dodge Ram 3500, CTD/6-speed, Quad cab, Laramie, 4x4. Red without the sport appearance package. Nothing customized, just left as is in stock form.
Picture
Ford F-350 SD, King Ranch, PSD/Torqueshift, Crew Cab, 4x4, Fx4. In white. Agian, nothing customized.
These would come after a sizeable collection of perofrmance cars/trucks, and Muscle Cars of course. I'd use 'em to tow my 1969 Dodge Charger R/T with a 426 Hemi to the drag strip. Its fun to dream. Maybe one day.
Best as always.

Afordable, reliable, Simple to operate, and plenty of power to spare
I think the KISS principal in engines and drivetrain design has been thrown out due to emission regs., and I am sorry to say, it is disappointing. These computerized monsters have taken the backyard mechanics out to lunch and brought in a new type of techy with a laptop instead of a shiny set of snap ons, and a stack of manuals with flow charts and circuit diagrams instead of greasy hands and gear head talk. I MISS IT! I miss the carbs, I miss the manual controled engines and throttles, and the greasey mechanics talking engines, horsepower, and gears. Most of all I miss buying a brand new F-350 for $10 or $12k that could pull anything you had on the farm to pull.
I guess if I could, I'd like to keep todays Super Duty with high horsepower and gearing set-ups, but without all the electronic automatic sensors and functions. Just plain old Holley 4 barrel carbs and manual cables, and about $15,000 less money so everyone could own one. They truely are an awsome vehicle!
