Question Inconsistent starting problems

I have a 2000 F150 4x4 with a 5.4L engine. I am experiancing a problem starting the vehicle that doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes I turn the ignition and the truck doesn't even try to start and the power to the dash goes off including the radio. Then when I turn the key back to the accessories position the radio doesn't turn back on, but the instrument panel seems to be working fine. This happened a couple of days ago and I had the vehicle towed to my house and now it is starting again. Any ideas?

Inconsistent Starting Problems

I have a 2000 Expedition 4x4 with a 5.4L engine as well. Just today the same thing happened to me. I put the key in the ignition and nothing happened. I tried several more times and nothing. I called AAA and they came out and tried to jump the truck. Nothing. The AAA guy said he thinks it is the Anti-Theft System because he has seen this in newer Expeditions and F-150s. He leaves to get a flat-bed to tow my truck. I try one more time, then it starts. I then call a guy at a local auto-repair and he explains to me that the same thing has been happening to a guy at the shop. What he knows is that it has to do with the Vehicle Anti-theft System or VAT System. It is within the Electric Control Module or ECM. This person had to take it to Ford, who had his truck for a couple of weeks before they figured it out. This a very common problem in Ford Trucks. This guy said that the fix should be covered as a recall because it is a safety issue or at the very least it is covered under warranty. I am suppose to talk with the guy who had the problem later today. I will post what I find out and how he dealt with the problem. Have you found out anything about this?

I just recently had similiar starting problems. The truck would start when cold, but wouldn't when warm. It turned out to be the starter relay.
