how to visually ID rear diff

I would like to know how to visually I D my rear differential in my truck. I've been told its a Dana 70. But I'm not sure. Info I have on rear ends say the Dana 70 has a 10.50" ring gear. Is there a way to tell without pulling the rear cover off? Thanks. Also I can't find anything stamped on the housing, such as a 60 or 70.

Try going to Fourwheeler.com. Click on "Tech". Click on "four wheel drive systems". Go to the bottom of this page and click on "axles". Here you will find your answer.

Chris, thanks for the info. I looked it up and yes I do have the Dana 70 rear end. I sort of thought I did as the rear end is very large and the truck has a heavy rated GVW package (8700 lbs) it also has the 9/16" wheel studs on it. I think its like a 1 ton - 3/4 ton pickup as it is a non catalyst engine, it says that on the valve cover decal & the core support decal. Also no "unleaded fuel only" written under the fuel gauge on the dash or gas cap doors. Its an 82 and I think this was still when you could play with the GVWR packages some and get the non catalytic converter truck. The Y-pipe is solid clear back to where the muffler starts under the bed(no welded in splices to get rid of the converter). Well thanks again!
