Exclamation Tune up TIME!!!!

My scab has 47g on the clock and i tried changing the spark plugs myself but my ratchet (craftsman) doesnt have enough torque to take them off .I don't want to break the spark plug or mess up the threads on the engine manifolds... Has anyone done it them selves or any info on it??? Im putting in the BOCH PLAT 4 on it ..

Do yourself and your truck a favor, and do NOT put in those gimmicky 4 point spark plugs on it.

They are more likely to lose one of those little prongs and have it rattle around in your cylinder. Last thing you need.

As for not being able to get the plugs out....you sure you're turning them the right way? Had to ask...

are you using the right size wrench? The plugs in these trucks are only 9/16, not your standard 5/8 or 13/16.

Most new vehicles don't require a plug change until 100,000 miles.
Unless you're having problems or have seen significant drop in fuel economy I'd leave it alone.

I would take it back to ford if their that hard to get out.You sure don't wont to break
them off it could cost you a lot more the plugs. Just my two cents. If ford breaks them
its still the cost of a tuneup no more

I also don't understand why anyone would be changing plugs so prematurely. My last truck was still running fine on the original plugs when I sold it at 179,000 and my friend finally had a plug go bad on his Taurus at 159,000. My Escape has 92,000 on the original plugs and it runs great.

Sheesh,

I remember changing plugs and points every 6-8K. Gives new meaning to "they don't make them like they used to".

Bad climate control systems, manual windows, drum brakes, airleaks, windnoise, poor fuel ecomony, rattles/shakes/squeeks.............thanks God they don't build them like they used to!

Don't forget replacing the bias ply tires about every 10,000 miles and always wondering if they were going to start every time it got cold.

I drive my 62 Fairlane 500 every in once in a while just to remind me how much better things are now than back in "the good old days". I finally found a FM converter to use with the AM radio that takes a minute or so to warm up before it comes on and will kill a fresh battery in about an hour if the car is not running.

I usually wait until about 85000 miles and then change everything on out side of motor:Plugs, Plug Wires, Ignition Cap or Distributor Cap,Hoses and Belts.I usually clean the battery cables,flush radiator and install new thermostat and check air filter at this time.I think 47000 mi. is too early unless you are having problems.Good Luck!

CTFORDGUY... yup usin a 9/16 socket on a 9/16 ratchet

Sorry to cause such a commotion but i am used to changing ''everything'' out at 36k just to keep everything lubed. I live in a city that reaches 120 degrees Farenhiet during the day and 92 degrees Farenhiet at night (street temps). So not only are the conditions bad but my truck is put through a lot of strenous work...like when a friends F2/350 gets stuck in a ditch at one of the ranches and they need more than one truck im out there...not to mention when it rains i go WHEELING no longer called MUDDING cuz mudders just slide around while wheelers go through ditches and shallow lakes....

All in all i think i need to do some things 'prematurely' just to keep everything lubed ....
