trebark and others, unless you're going to calculate and post your miles-per-gallon, how many miles per tank isn't really very accurate.
Too many variables on tank= number of miles.
Plus, unless you give length of bed, an assumption has to be made as to what size tank.
Why not just post the calculated mpg please.

Getting only 420 miles per tank on the highway, he must have a short bed with a 29 gallon tank. And since he's got chevrolet tires that are 30.46" instead of the stock 31.65" tires, he's off by 3.76%. So actually, he's not going 85MPH but 81.8MPH unless he corrected the speedometer. Usually, when the low fuel light comes on, I have 8 gallons left, or 160 miles. I'm guessing there may be 5 gallons left on a short bed, so that would be 24 gallons. 420 miles minus the 3.76% error is 404.2 miles so 404.2/24 is 16.8 mpg. Not too bad but the limited range sucks! I can get over 700 miles per tank on the highway with a long bed. Just a guess.

Danko wanted to know if I used 85 oct.
It says 87 but I figured it has some water in it.
kenB wanted me to do the math. And I fully understand where he's comin from. But I knew n578md would be there for me to try and figure it out. Let me help you, for real my truck from the stock tires that were street continental 265x75x16" my spedo was 3 mph slower than actual. So I went to 245 liberator all ter. and still get 3 mph diff. Sory I missed where it said Chv on them. I am aware of this and drive according to act. mph, truck is lb so you know the tnk size. I also had the original plugs and dirty fuel filter which u can use in ur equasion.
Please oh PLEEEZE do the math for me again.
Me, I flunked math, but I'm driving to fast.
I also drove an expedition with 5.4 with no lie o meter and could not get it better than 18 hwy mpg at posted speed lmt , nles i was coasting downhill.
And to all u vets Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!

Browse the forums a bit. Hint - jump down to the 6.4L forum under "Diesel". Also, when you search flip through the results a bit further. You'll find a wealth of info here.
Just a couple ideas - how you drive/where you drive will have a huge impact on your mileage. Trailer/no trailer, hard/easy acceleration, etc.
I can get close to 16mpg daily driving in mine and have seen as high as 17.5mpg, hand calculated. For the most part the 16mpg mark, or a tad less, is where I've been. I haven't taken the truck on any trips that have been solid highway so I don't know how that will do. I have noticed if I hit 70mph or faster my mileage drops. I try to keep it around 65-67mph here.

I'm new to the forum, thanks all for the info.
My Truck:
2000 F250 SuperDuty, V8 Triton
Extended Cab ('bat-wing' rear doors)
165K miles on original engine
Auto Trans
Unknown rear axle ratio.
Last Big Trip, towing a 9,000 lb 5th wheel:
Straight and level Interstate cruise at about 65mph = 11mpg
Engine burned about 1/3 qt of oil on a 1,000 mile trip.
Around town? Who knows? But certainly better than that!
I've only owned this truck for about 2 months, but in the past, it had perfect maintenance. I guess it shows.
I think this is great gas mileage, considering the miles on the rig, and the weight it was towing.
