What power steering box to use on a '57-'60?

I searched the archives, and didn't come up with anything... sooooo, what power steering box easily adapts to the '57-'60 Efonhunert? Is it a Toyota? A Jeep unit? Which one?

Has anyone ever set one up cross steer?

Has anyone documented a power steering how-to on FTE for these trucks?

Thanks guys!

Sam.

I've doing a lot of reaserch on the Toyota PS conversion for my 54. I found that No Limit Engineering makes a kit for the 57-60 to convert it with the Toyota box. The only difference is the Pitman arm. It looks like the installation is the same, and there are several tech articles online (Classic Performance Parts, Classic Trucks magazine).

Doesn't it use the same early 80's Toyota box as the 53-56 conversion?

The box you need is from 1980 to early 1985 toyota 4x4. Basically from the trucks that had a solid front axle. In late 1985 they changed over to independent front suspension and a cross steering set-up

Good luck

Has anyone ever tried to convert their truck to cross steer?

It would help control bump steer, and open the door for the use of other type boxes.

Check the chevy box conversion, that may be a cross steer setup.

Has anyone looked at the later Ford truck years, 67 and up. It seems like the old 69 F250 I had years ago with the mighty Twin "I" Beam was a cross steer. I didn't look into it much when I was doing my steering...I found a steal on the toyo box and went with it.

I don't know about cross stearing, but I put a 1983 toyota 4X4 box in my 60. The toyota years that work are 1979 - 1984. After 84 the box is different. You can see some pictures in my gallery. Lots of people sell kits, I only bought the mounting bracket from CPP.

my 58 is set up with cross steering. the steering box came out of a 78 LTD. Note where the frame was heated up and banged up for the pitman arm to clear the frame. also see where the draglink was connected to the passenger wheel. it has no bump steering either and a very smooth ride.

it drives great. i can easily hang u-turns quick. park without any stress to my arms and no bump steer.

you will have to move the steering column up a few inches from the original location. get a u-joint or a rag-joint and your fine.

i need to get rid of the rag-joint and get a u-joint instead cause of the angle its at. i could use a 1 1/2 " drop to the column but the wheel would rub on my lap.

i also have a steering stabalizer connected to it.

Is their an easy way to use a Toyota box in my 56 withOUT power, just replace a worn out non power unit with a cheaper toy box?
