Those SD axles are Dana 50s and they aren't worth swapping in.

you could get a 2002+ SD axle (Dana 6), but they still aren't that great. They have unit bearings that go bad alot, and they are $450 bucks a side (for the bearing itself).

find an '85.5-98 axle, and you'll be a lot happier. an '85.5-91 axle and it is stronger (has kingpins instead of balljoints).

like bremen said you are looking at those crappy, POS unit bearings which are weak. also you will have 2 different lug patterns to deal with... the front beaing a metric pattern

Bremen and Fishy are right - as much as you're in a hurry to finish the thing up, the SD axles are way more trouble than you probably want to deal with. Keep looking for an older D60.

Good Luck,
Ernie

You might want to grab a rear axle if you can get it for cheap, then convert a 10.25 you have to rear disc brakes (or just grab the parts you need, like the mc and booster for example) I can't remember who told me this (someone on here) but all the stuff just swaps over to the 10.25" axle, you just need to use rotors from the front of a 87 and up f-350/250 4wd truck, i believe that is right.
