I just put the Superchips tuner on my truck and boy what a difference! The only thing is that I get a fan belt slip when shifting from 1-2 WOT. I just let the programmer do its thing with the improved shift points. If anyone else has experienced this problem, please let me know if/how to fix it.
I know most users of the Superchips tuner have experienced the fan belt squeak. Apparently you can fix it by replacing the stock belt with a Gator belt, however I have not done so. I have gotten used to the squeak and don't mind it anymore.
Thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't causing any damage. Another question--- The programmer did not ask me to disable the fuel system. Is this normal? 04 F150 4.6L
Some systems, you dont have to. It says that right in the manual. I didnt have to on my 04 F150, but I did for my fathers 04 F250. Also, I do not have any squeaky belts.
I installed the hypertech programmer and mine has a sharp sounding squeak only when i stomp the gas and as soon as it shifts.......I was told it was the throttle body making that noise. Is that the same squeak u r talking about......?
It improves horsepower, and torque...as well as a major improvement in throttle reaction, and much improved shifts. I can not vouch for everyone, but I gained a full mpg when I installed mine. I speak of the 91+ tune. I havent used the towing perfomance yet, since towing is few and far between with my truck. The 87+ gives you the same throttle improvements, as well as transmission shifts, but with a lesser amount of performance gains. I actually had to remove my tuner to have it reprogrammed (Ford updated my computer, and the tuner didnt have the new code in it, so it needed to be reflashed by Superchips). I was almost on the verge of tears! I thought to myself 'who took my F150, and replaced it with an S10 '. I refuse to drive the stock truck now. The driving difference is night and day. As for the warranty issue, no. It doesnt cause any warranty issues. Now, if you install a tuner, and do some mile long burnouts, and bring it to Ford and say 'it broke, fix it under warranty', you are on your own.
I've been interested in a tuner for my 2005 4.6, but seem to find only ones for 2004. Anyone seen them or heard when ones for the 2005 will be available? I would like to get the performance I keep hearing about.
Kato, I have a 2005 F150 4.6 as well and what I hear is that the Hypertech programmer coming for the 2005 4.6 is going to be WELL worth the wait. I'm looking forward to checking it out.
WheelMA1, is this the tuner you are talking about? I have an '01 F250sd 5.4 w/ 4.10's. I hope to get some top end power when towing and hopefully a little mpg increase all the time. http://www.colterdistributing.com/product.asp?ProdID=1586
It isnt. That is the 1715, which works on the 96-03 trucks. I have the 1714, which only works on the 2004 as of now. They are probably quite close though.
