never knew gm had a locker rear. do you mean limited slip? all 3 american companys have them. i have never had a ford l.s. rear give me a problem out of my last 15 new fords."40 years" lockers seem to me to be all a aftermarket installation with the new air lockers imm to be the tops in off roading. for the ocean beach fishing i do, the ls works fine

Cap'n Charlie:
Yes, GM has/had a locker.
My '89 Full Size Blazer (they called it a V-1500, otherwise known as a K5) had a locker in the rear from the factory. (GM 10 bolt - 3.73:1)
Several times I had wished that I had a locker in the front, too.

Well, MHO is that since Ford went to the rear take out, GM style rear differentials and got rid of the 9" drop out style, that was the largest mistake they have ever done in the differential department. The 9" was nearly bulletproof and even the Chevy drivers preferred them in racing applications over their own brand. The new model rear ends are to GM styled for me, to consider them as being a good design.
As for lockers, I think that for your average daily use, which a huge majority of us are, limited slip is more than enough to get you where you need to go. It would be cool if Ford were to put a sort of electrical or air-locker on demand for both front and rear of the 4x4 models. It's definately a factoid that if all 4 wheels are pulling equally, when needed, it's gotta be best.
As for limited slip ... I haven't had any real issues with them either. I do NOT like them on hill sides, because it always seems the wheel with the least resistance .. the uphill side, is the one that will start spinning. Therefore... the air locker front and rear would be perfect.

we had a 99 6.0 chevy and that thing would do 2 wheel spin in trying to pull something out. i watch a neighbor that had the 6.0PSD do the same thing with the (limited) look more like unlimited slip to me.
dad got the locker on the dmax. he will tell you it was the best money he spent. he originally wasn't going to get it, but with a little reminder (me) he decided to get it. i told him, for the price of the investment, if it sat there and spun 2 wheels, you and i both know you would be ticked.
the locker is far superior and i won't own a truck with out it. the next thing i have to talk him into is a locker for the front. why is this not an option from the factory? atleast we have 3 out of 4 to spin.

The Ford LSD is a Edited by Admin. The clutches will be weakened or gone after the first couple high speed engagements.
The Eaton from GM is a better unit.........the best is what Fordlover suggested (and what I have on my early Bronco) An air locker that is open UNTIL you need it with a flick of a switch!!

why are most of your posts so negitive? not every thing is perfect in this world and what does not work for you. works fine for thousands of others.
sure a locker is great. i have one in my 95 150 and thats because it was a hand me down for free. all 15 of my new fords have had a ls and worked fine for me. again a sure i would love to have a ls up front from the factory. dana makes one and it's going up there this summer. just like i did to my 95. there is no stopping some one from adding it if they want it.

Negative??? Never realized a captain would be so sensitive..LOL!!!
To be honest, I've owned countless LSD's in both 8.8 and the truck(Dana) diffs. They have had very limited lives.
What I've been taught is after a wheel loses traction the clutches are SUPPOSED to engage transfering power to the wheel with traction.
EVERY Mustang and truck I've owned eventually does the one legged dance whether in the sand or trying to launch my Mustang(s) at the track.
Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

are you a insurgent or thinking about buying a ford? at any rate welcome to the site. enjoy and follow the guide lines on posting and other things. remember this is ford land and you will most likely get ticked at some of our anti gm/mopar wordings. we all have clean fun and no puns intended ok.

The probelm I have with my Ford rear end is, when losing traction on pavement or gravel, both rear tires spin, but when stuck in the mud, only one spins. Its a pain in the butt, I wish both would spin in the mud. Either way I alwasy am able to rock er out some how, someday might upgrade the rear.
