Thumbs down Sluggish 05 5.4L

Just got back from a short 300 mile or so round trip and with 6700 on the odo This KR w/3.73's towing a small trailer with a 4 wheeler on it(600lbs) and it was only getting in the high 11's for MPG's and seems real sluggish passing and takes awhile to get going. I know its got the electronic throttle and all but jeez. Am I the only one that thinks it should be better than this? Other than that I love the truck, just with this bad milage you would think that it would haul the mail.......but.

Superchips Tuner.....all you need to know. Are you sure you dont have anything else going on? Thats awfully low mileage for only hauling 600 pounds.

A tuner will make all the difference in the world but as of right now, the only tuner available for the 05 is the hypertech.

Everything checked out at the dealer when I took it in for the 1st oil change, its had the "update" done on the PCM so I guess it just needs to get some more miles on it,hopefully it will get better. Is there anything I can do to it without spending much $ on it.

I just got done pulling an enclosed trailer with my '64 Catalina in it. I pulled it about 600 miles round trip. I averaged 14.98 miles/gallon.
I am not complaining...

Adding a Borla exhaust system woke my 04 up quite a bit. It felt like a dog compared to my 01 that had 3.55 gears.

So what is involved with a Supertuner Chip. What does it do? Does it affect the warrentee? Is this something the average guy can do? Please educate.

It is a very simple add on. If you have thumbs, and can sit still for 5 minutes, you can use the Superchips tuner. It plugs into the OBDII port (right below the steering wheel, under dash). Just follow the instructions on the lcd screen (its a handheld unit), and away you go. Everything is laid out in very understandable wording. It also doubles as a code scanner. Thats a very cool feature.
What it does:
The first time you plug it in, it will save the stock computer program (Fords calibration). From there, it will load a new computer program, based on whichever setting you choose. There is an 87 octane, a Tow performance, and a High Performance. I personally use the High Performance. It does require 91+, but I do get 1mpg better with this particular tune over stock. Once the tune is loaded, away you go! The power difference is instant, and definately noticeable. The transmission shifts quicker, giving it a much sportier feel. It is in no way jarring, but firm. It does not affect any warranties. You can check out some information about it in the FTE store ( www.motorhaven.com). Not only does this store help keep FTE going, but they also have the best pricing on these things ANYWHERE on the net. I searched for a good three weeks before I finally gave up finding a cheaper place (Was always going to buy from there, but I just wanted to see if anyone could match them....and they couldnt). Anything else?

No disrespect, but I find that very hard to believe.

I'll swear on a stack of bibles.

I average 17-18.5 mixed highway and back roads. I don't punch the gas, I use 87 octane. I calculate gas milage at every fill up. I rotate my tires, and make sure they are properly inflated, I don't haul around alot of useless junk. The gas stations around here are no longer using the "winter blend" (10% ethanol).

Sorry if you think I'm a liar....
but my calculator (and wallet) doesn't lie..
