6.8L V-10 gas vs 6.0L diesel
I'm still kicking around the idea of buying a 250SD 4x4. The powerstroke is just killing me on the price, and have thought about just buying the 6.8L gas engine.
Anyone have a SD with the V-10? What kind of mileage are you getting with it? Is it worth it over the $5,000+ price of the powerstroke?

The diesel is nice, 5k is alot though, I have 04 V10, I tow 28' 5er, mine does great, only mistake I made was not getting the 4:30's, I live above 6,000 ft, so some
towing is above 12,000 ft, but I enjoy the V10, mileage if you keep your foot out of it on the hiway, best has been 15 mpg, at 70 mph, towing 8k 9.5-10 worst, in town no
load 11 mpg. I would have gotten the 6.0, but my wife wouldn't buy into it, but I am
happy with my purchase. Good luck

I'd like to get the 6.0 for the mileage when I'm not towing, but, with the price of diesel like it is, I'm not sure if I can buy into it either for $5g's more; I might get worse mpg with the V-10, but, not to justify $5g's...
Pretty much all my driving will be done on flat land; west Texas has an abundance of that here. My daily commute is less than 5 minutes to and from work. Every other weekend I drive 90 miles to go pickup my son, bring him back, then do the trip again come that sunday, so, that will be my longest haul I expect so far.

I have an '02 F250 CC 4x4 V10 and get about 13 hwy 11 city.
Tow once a month a 31' 5vr and here in the mountains of Colorado still have no issues with power but mpg is around 7.
$5k more for a diesel have to drive it forever to justify the $$ but either way it is a nice problem to have.
Happy hunting

I have an '01 F250 V10 and an '05 F350 PSD.
The V10 gets 6 mpg in town;
The diesel gets 11-12 mpg in town.
I run high-octane in the V10 - currently $2.89/gal. (California taxes!!!)
Diesel is currently $2.65/gal.
So, I figure I'm getting nearly twice as many miles per dollar with the diesel .
And, in five years, I'll have saved enough on fuel to justify the extra cost of the diesel !! Wahoo!!!

6 mpg that is awfull I think something is wrong. My 03 v-10 averages between 11 and 13. I would say buy what you can afford, I love my v-10 but it's not a daily driver, you have a very short commute thats a positive for the v-10. If money is no problem go diesel if money is the final make or break go with the v-10 IMO none of these trucks you buy for gas mileage. But it's nice to have choices. When it comes down to v-10 vs diesel it's a win /win situation FORD is plain kicking everyones *** in the truck market PS or triton it's still a FORD gotta love that

That is horrible mileage. No wonder you got something else. My 04 CC 4x4 Automatic with 4.30's got 10.5 mpg last tank around town empty. Last tank combined about 50% trailer/ 50% no trailer was 9.35mpg, mostly in-town. That was up about 1/2mpg over recent tanks. It seems to really like the RaceTrac 87 octane lately

On some cars Premium can improve fuel economy to the point of being cheaper to run than regular. And power can improve as well.
From my understanding with the V10 is that it makes no improvements at all, as it runs a very conservative spark advance strategy, thus it cannot take advantage of the premium
