anybody know about dana 60's with 16 spline axles???

anybody know about dana 60's with 16 spline axles???

as the title implies, i need information about a dana 60 with 16 spline axles, any information at all. strengths, weakness, parts availability, the whole ball of wax.

they are rare detroit makes a locker for them but its a lot more money than any others as for strength I guess they are ok I have had now problems with one

If you are going to spend money on the rear end or have alot of power or like to play hard, move up to a 35 spline d60 if you can, the 35 axles are much stronger than the 16's and the 30's. i dont think you can just swap in 35 splines axles into your housing without machine work though, so a complete rear end is needed

the 16 spline axle will work fine for load carrying capacity if that is your plan

what kind of machining would be required, just out of curiosity.

I believe the axles wont fit into the spindles themselves, (which are welded on to the tubes), also i have seen many carrier bearing seats in the d60 housing itself oversized by heavy towing and mileage, by the time you get spindles, axles, new differential, go thru the rest of the rear end, etc., etc., you have alot of money into what.......my suggestion , if you cant find a 35 spline d60 thats not been reamed on, I would get a 10 1/4 ford which should bolt right in and it has the big axles, bearings, brakes, etc........
