Ignition key replacement

b01,
I had to replace the key cylinder in my truck a year or so ago. its a '95 f-150. if i remember correctly, what you need to do disconect the battery and put a key in the ignition, turn in to the run position (forward to where the fuel pump, etc turns on). under the steering column there is a small hole directly under the key cylinder. stick a small drill bit or something of the sort up there and it will press a release button on key cylinder. you should then be able to pull it out and replace it. The whole procedure is explained a little better in the haynes repair manual. Hope this helps,

It is much more difficult without the key. You will need to remove the steering wheel, turn signal switch, etc. Then you will have access to the back of the lock cylinder. You will see the retaining pin that holds the cylinder in the steering column. The retaining pin is released with the key in the run position, but without the key, you will probably need to drill out the retaining pin. The procudure in the Haynes manual, although very detailed, doesn't exactly explain things too clearly.

If you go to a Ford parts place with the spare key get them to match the spare key to a new switch with the proper middle tumbler cuts and you can then have the new ignition key cut to operate the existing door locks and eliminate extra keys to carry. ijust did this myself and just lucked on the info and the proper key that I was given with a new switch.

yes you do have to remove the whole cylinder, with the ignition key in the cylinder turn it to the on position, look for a small hole where the cylinder slides in, with a paper clip stick in the hole and push in, the cylinder will pop straight out when you pull, it should not take you long at all. I have done a few in the past. let me know how it goes
