Good auto trans for a 300/6
Hi Iam new to the board. I have an 85 Bronco with carbureted six , 4 speed manual tranny. Is there any good auto tranny for that year and engine that I could look for at the salvage yards. Will they work off an 8 cyl ? Are they any good or worth the work.I understand that I will need a new radiator, lines ,linkage and flywheel Thanks, Mike

C-4 or C-6 have both come attached to the 300 I-6 from the factory & as long as you have the Proper Torque coverter for an I-6, a C-4 or C-6 off a 289, 302 & 351W will do just fine, they use the same Bell Housing as the 300 I-6.

The AOD and E4OD also came hooked to these at various times if you want an overdrive. The c4/c6 seem to last longer in my experience.
Although the E40d would be a harder swap due to the electronics.
Don't forget you will also need a shifter of some sort in addition to what you list.
And if you use an aftermarket transmission cooler, you can keep your stock radiator.

The 300 I-6 uses that small block bolt pattern, so any trans with that pattern should theoretically work.

You lucked out then, because they are rather different due to the Fact that the Stall Speeds are quite a Bit lower for the I-6 which are in the Teens.
There are others things as well that I just can't remember as present.
I just went through this w/ My Tranny Specialist & we had to do a Bit of research to make sure we got Everything correct for my 300 I-6 & C-4 because I basically Started from Scratch on Building them From the Ground Up.
