is maaco any good?

i've heard from lots of people, that maaco is basically a cheap a$$ paint job. I heard heard stories of terrible overspray, not taping things off, such as emblems, trim, door handles, etc. Does anyone out there have any experience with them? thanks for the help guys.

I have seen all those things. You get what you pay for. Some Maaco's have good painters but the quality of the prep work and materials will adversly affect the finished product. In a shop I worked at we would do all the prep work. ie. remove handles emblems bumpers sand fix dents ect and then have maaco shoot it. They could paint it for less than what we would pay for the materials

There was a thread about Maaco about 4-6 weeks ago. Do a search, there were a lot of comments about prep work etc. I had a car done years ago but I did all the prep work. The paint job was ok. Now I do it myself. Sometimes cost a bit more, but more fun.

They use the same paint that is used on trailer houses, appliances, etc. that is inferior to automotive paint. It will last for 6 months to 2 years, then peel or flake off.

I ran into a friend who is having his 92 Ranger painted at Maaco. He is also having body work done. It was supposed to be done in a week. It looks like it might stretch to about two and a half.

My bother and my sister both had "good" maaco PJ's on there cars and within a year they were bubbling uner the paint... were bodywork had been done.... crapy paintjobs unless you do the prep yourself or have it does by someone other than Maaco..... also spend a little more on better paint from them it will go a long way

It would be nice to hear from a Maaco employee so they can tell us why there paint jobs suck, I think they are underpaid and over worked, cheap materials and they cut every corner they can, you get what you pay for...

my trucks a macco jobbie, i had some rust removal, dent ( crater) removal, and new body panels put on. For 2000 bucks, my truck looks like a million bucks form 10 feet away, but once you get up close and personal, you can see some problems. but its a truck not a show car, and thats all i care for.

I got a macco paint job on my 93 Chrysler conv. I was happy with the way that the paint looked, however the collision repair sucked. It was T boned in the passanger side rear quarter. They pulled it out and filled the rest with bondo. I didn't have a problem with this in theory because the guy assured me that it would be no problem. It took 4 trips back and repainting the car and bodywork to get it right. The didn't pull it out all the way to match the door. And the door woudlnt open and close right. They eventually got it right, but what a pain in the a$$.

They did a good job with the color matching though, it was white, and the paint looked very good.

Buddy of mine just got his 4x4 Dodge painted and...there is overspay every where and they even painted over his chrome exhuast tips! They is paint dust on the interior, and to cover up the overspray they rattled caned the underneath of the truck and even painted over his new BDS lift kit(white shocks now black on one side, white on the other).

Has anyone done any business with the MAACO in Garwood, NJ or Union, NJ? Are they good to deal with? The Garwood shop has a new owner.

I have a 1986 F-150 that I prepped and primed (all emblems and mouldings are off) and I just want someone to shoot it.
