1995-1997 f-250/350

been shopping awhile for 1997 f-250/350. got my heart broke today-found a '97 psd crew cab 4x4 with 67,000 miles 3 hours from my house and some guy from NY is supposed to be sending a deposit on it tomorrow-just missed this opportunity. 2 questions:
1) kbb values for these 1995-1997 psd's is no where near what they are bringing-kinda scared to pay the premium prices but what else can you do-are these models just that much in demand?
2) have found another '97 crew cab 4x4 psd with 119,000 miles-car fax certified-does this sound like something i should try to make a deal on?

I personnally would not hesitate to jump on that, either one, if it, has been
well maintained, and is clean go for it, I own a 2000 and am contemplating
going back to that body style.

thanks nobrandx-
just so happens the guy from NY did not send a deposit on the 67,000 mile truck-i drove alittle less than 3 hours today and put a deposit on the truck-woo hoo!! beautiful truck-very little wear on the exterior-interior looks like a new one. 67.000 miles on a psd-well maintained-i feel pretty lucky to have found this baby-of course-i had to pay premium price-but at 18,700 i think i got a great truck for decent price. what do you think?

Price

I don't know---$18,700 sounds awfully high for a 97. I bought a 2003 F-250 gasser with 22,000 miles on it back in October for $18,986--and that was from a Ford dealer here in NY. I would look for something newer if you are prepared to spend that much.

Operative word being gasser. Diesels hold their value better by a long shot around here and in most areas, I believe.

The low miles is a real plus as well.

I think he did OK especially if it is what he wants. Premium older body styles (my preference as well) command a premium price.

I agree, if it what he wants, and he feels he did good, then what does it mater. Also, compare apples to apples, Dave is right. The 2003 in no way compares to the 97 because of the desiel. I own a 97, and love it.

Overniter, word of advice. When looking for parts, ask for yours by saying its a 96. It will most of the time save you a long explaination and raise in blood pressure.

Well, he did ask what we think.

First, congrats on your "new" truck. I won't comment on the price because it seems that you're happy- and that really is all that matters.

I would like to "second" prcrboy's recommendation on asking for parts. A lot of places don't realize that the '97 HD trucks are the old body style. If they don't immediately know what you're asking for, just tell them it's a '96 model. Has saved me some frustration more than once.

thanks so much for the replies guys-seems the jury is out on whether i am paying too much for the truck. i have looked extensively for the '97 psd,4x4,crew cab,SB for awhile-the nicer ones in this area are commanding premium prices. i would like your comment on price no mo-i have put a deposit on the truck but i think the seller would refund me if i have made a bad decision. i have second guessed myself to death, but the truck really is as nice as described.
seems some feel the price is ok-guess i just need reassurance. i can say i was looking at a truck in texas-same as the one i bought-a few more options-and 52,000 more miles-the seller had it on ebay for a buy it now price of 18K-he said it would not sell for any less than that.
any other additional comments you guys have will be welcome-and any additional input appreciated-just jump in and tell me what you think.

If you're just asking about the price-
For the truck you've found, it seems like the price is about what you'd expect to pay a dealership. I'd think a private individual would be asking for a little less.

If you're asking about the value of the investment-
Only you can decide whether paying a $9000 premium for the PSD is a wise use of your money.

What would you put a good price on a '97 F250 SC XLT w/351 gas 4 speed auto? I want to sell mine and don't know what to start at. I was thinking (hoping?) for around $ 5,000....

overniter- you can get (around here anyway) a very nice '97 w/7.5L engine for just under $10,000.

beemr- you can get a price recommendation for your truck at www.kbb.com

I just ran my '97psd on both kbb and nada, nada value was over $2000 more than kbb. I would never consider taking what kbb says mine should go for! Heck, last week I turned down an offer that was almost exactly what nada said I should get, now I know where he came up with the offer price. If you're happy with the truck forget the price, in case no one has told you, you can't take the money with you when you leave here! (but I have heard of people being buried in their vehicles .

Overniter,
Glad to hear you got that truck, btw I don't think it was too much being the fact here in Gt. Falls MT, the 90-97 body styles go like hotcakes gas or diesel, in fact the price you paid is about right for the miles etc -Good for you I would have done the same thing
