Unhappy Cruise Control On 04 Explorer Eddie Bauer STALLING

Hey Guys,
I noticed a new hicup with my truck I was wondering if anyone else had the same issue. If I engage the cruise control around 50km/h then choose to slow it down via the steering wheel control the truck will stall out!!!

Is there a fix for this issue and is it a known 04 problem.....Thanks for your quick response!!!!

Regards,
James.

Hey Guys,
I am still having this issue, I was hoping that a couple of you could maybe give it a go in your trucks to see if it happens to you as well. So as previously stated If I engage the cruise control around 50km/h then choose to slow it down via the steering wheel control the truck will stall out!!! The cruise doesn't shut off it merely stalls the truck.....

Thanks guys.
Regards,
James

What do you mean the truck will stall out? 50 KM/hr is what, just above 30 MPH? The crusie control wont work below 30 MPH. I mean it can't engage or keep the vehicle moving below that - some safety feature I guess. Likewise, if in cruise control and you hity a hill and the truck can't maintain set point below 8-14 MPH, the cruise control will kick out. Either of these scenarios do not stall or kill the engine. It still rune but now you need to puit your foot into it to kep moving forward. Pretty simple really.

My cruise control can be engaged at 40 km/h however sometimes when I use the steering wheel controls to slow the vehicle the engine stalls out the cruise control does not disengage.

Stall out = the truck shuts down, all the lights come on and the truck has to be restarted.

Any ideas ??

I could see this possibly with a manual tans and being in too high a gear for such a slow speed. But I assume your's is automatic since it's such a late model year. Could have the smae problem though I guess. That the auto is not coming out of 3rd gear or something. I guess I'd have to see it to make further comment. What does the dealer say? It's under warranty right?

I read this post about a month ago and I also have a 04 explorer 4.0L. If I put it in cruise at 35 and go down a hill it will stall out everytime or whenever I engage cruise below 40 and hit the coast button instead of cruise automaticlly shutting off the car shuts off instead. (FORD DEALERSHIP WAS STUMPED) I told them to reflash the computer. It took three times of me telling them this and them calling their special ford hotline before the did what I told them to do and what you know it fixed it. Turns out all it is a scriptline in the cars computer has a fault. So take it back to the dealer let em know whats going on and they should be able to fix it real quick. I hope this helps

It's amazing how these "experts" can be so inept at times. They hardly ever listen to the customer. The customer who you would think know his/her car better than anyone else. I took my 93 Ex back 3 times before they finally found a ground error in the wiring harness for the trailer lights. Blamed it on my trailer or said there was nothing wrong with it..."getting 12 V". Finally I told them to put a bulb on it, a load - guess what? fuse burned out and bulb wnet out. Hmmm...maybe the customer actually knew what he was talking about.

I just bought an 04 mercury mountaineer premier (V8) last summer with 40k miles on it.
A few months ago, when using the cruise control while going somewhere between 35 and 50 mph the engine simply died (all the idiot lights lit up in the instrument cluster). I had to roll to the side of the road and put it in park and restart the engine. The problem happens from time to time: use cruise control under 50 mph and the engine suddenly "dies".

I know its not a fuel quality problem.
Anyone else have this like scenario and have a solution?

You know, if you read the previous posts, you would have found that someone else found that a computer update resolved the issue.

Gee. Thank you for that small tid bit of history.
So that must be the answer!
We'll call Ford on Monday and tell them to send all their questions
to you. And you can become top guru just be telling them to read
the questions.
