someone ask Scott about his truck

OK, here goes... I am about to take a trip down to Nashville for some pickin'. So I figured it was a good time to get the thing tuned up. I took it to a garage in Covington run by some guys that really love my old 67. I wanted them to tune it and take a look at the bearings to see if they needed packing or replacing.
I called them that afternoon to see when it would be done and out of the blue the guy says, "Did you know that you truck has the original spark-plug wires?"
I knew they were old, but had no idea that they were original. The he says, "I am pretty sure that it even has the original spark plugs."
OK, so what was running through my mind was, "I wonder if the 24,000 miles showing was really just 24,000 miles?" So I asked the guy if he thought it has 124,000 miles on it. He said that he doubted it. He seems to be pretty sure that my 67 F250 Camper Special has ONLY 24,000 on it. That kind of explains a few things. The compression is great, but a lot of the gaskets and rubber has been breaking down. I believe it has been sitting for a long time.
My theory is that the guy that owned it always had a camper on it and only took it camping. It probably wasn't a daily driver. My next task is to try and document it somehow. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Scott

Hey Scott,
I wonder if they could tell from the amount of wear on the gears in the rearend? Also, may be able to check the heater ducts. I would think that after 124,000 miles, there would be alot more debris in there than at 24,000. Also, how are the seat padding? After 124,000 miles, it should be worn down more than 24,000, especially, the driver's seat. Ok, maybe I've been watching too much CSI, but, you never know.
Just some suggestions,
Bluehawk

I haven't checked the heater ducts but the transmission seems pretty tight. It is an automatic 3 speed and shifts with no slippage. The seats are a different story. The padding is turning to dust/powder but the springs are still strong. The cover has some tears/cracks in it. Most of them happened since I have owned it. The cold is especially hard on old vinyl.
Thanks for the input.

That's incredible! What a great find. Now if I could just wake up tomorrow and find out that I'm really only 20 instead of 40 that would be great!
You mentioned you were going to Nashville to do some pickin. Are you talking about guitar pickin? I play a little myself. Nothing to serious. Mostly just for fun, but I do play out at a local bar a few times a year. Maybe we can have some music at our next meeting???

Yeah, I am heading to SPBGMA (See www.spbgma.com). I play Mandolin, Guitar and Bass if I have to. Mostly Bluegrass, but I am now in a band playing more eclectic acoustic original songwriting stuff.
I second the motion of waking up 20 years younger :-)
