size of truck box on '36 pick-up
Hello from Medicine Hat:
I'm a writer and there's a '36 Ford pick-up in my next kid's book, but I have a small problem. I've been looking everywhere on the Net to find out the approximate size of the "box" (if that's the proper term) on the '36 truck, but so far I've had no success. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.
Don.
P.S. In case anyone is interested, I'm trying to figure out how many beer bottles could be carried in a full load, with unmodified box. It's part of the story.

Hi, It seemed kinda small to me too so I looked it up in FTS'05(Ford Trucks Since '05, byJames K Wagner)For the 36 trucks he said nothing had changed on the box that year so I went to 35 where it said the box was a carryover from '32. Then I went to '32 and it says the box was lengthened to69.1" and the width is 46" with a depth of16.7"...My current beer bottles in my fridge measure 2 1/2 dia X 7 3/4 high.Looks like you could stack them 2 high with that 16.7 depth. My calculater tells me that one could carry 972 beer bottles in a 36 Ford pickup. Now if you were to add a couple of stake sides.... Wait a minute, what kind of kids book is this anyhow?

Thanks GB. And thanks for doing the calculation.
The book is based on a collection of humorous country stories of mine published up here in Canada about 20 years ago. In this new kid's novel version, there's a beer drinking neigbour who lives down the road from the kid's farm. Now this Pa Kettle type neighbor has been throwing his empty bottles through the window onto the pasture for many years and the kid wants those bottles to buy an archery set. The guy has a kind heart and a sense of humor, so he decides to help the kid out. He has a '36 truck... etc., etc. I'll tell you what. If and when the novel is published, I'll post the title here.
Thanks again for the help.
