4x4 production year?

what is the first year ford made a 4x4?

Does anyone know where I can find a list of trucks, listed by year and the model name and what was offered?

What is the first year they called any of the trucks by the name of ranger?

I can't recall a specific date on "Ranger" but it was before the small pickups currently associated with the name since the 80s. There were F100s with that name in the early 70s and maybe the late 60s. The 4x4 thing will be controversial because of "factory conversions." I have some dates somewhere and will see if I can find them.

Edit: Other trim levels associated with F100s include "Custom", and "Explorer."

I know the ranger badge was as early as 68 as I had one but may have been earlier but can't verify that , and the 4x4 converstion shouldn't count I am thinking the first factory 4x4 was in the mid 60s but not sure.

There were some F100s with low pinion Dana 44s from 1961 to 1965 and some with high pinion (reverse cut) in 1966.

From what I understand by looking through the LMC Catalogs it was 1959. I could be mistaken though - wouldn't be the first time that's happened!!! I think the "Ranger" thing became a package in 67 or 68.

LMC is a parts supplier type company. They have many parts for the 48-79 Fords, and some other Ch*vy years too. Their website is www.LMCtruck.com You can order a free catalog. It includes parts (obviously) and also some VIN decoding stuff. Hope this helps

Yea sorry about that RESQD1. and thats for that fishy. Oh well. I think that LMC is about the most expensive for some stuff anyways. I just use them for VIN decodes and uselesss info like first year for 4x4 and what all the small changes where from year to year. I say useless cause almost everyone at my HS are Ch*vy guys - I swear I'm the only die hard FORD MAN. Most of them Ch*vy boys don't know much about anything!!!

Seriously though - if you need parts for somethin check the sponsers here first - after all they are what keeps this site free!!!!

There is a lot of info missing from that Edmuncs site as well as some eroneous or misleading info.

A new body topped these changes and featured a concave groove that ran the length of the body and a cleaner grille with integrated turn signals.
The Twin-Traction Beam i.e. ttb didn't come out until 1980. The 73-79 F100 and F150 4x4s had Dana 44 solid front axles.

I noticed they said some thing about twin I-beam in that part. wasnt that like 64 or 65? also, the 2wd F-250s had coils/shocks not leaves (those were the F-250 4x4's)

oh well - it has been said many times, many ways that this is best FORD site on the net and i do believe that statement is correct
