Do you worry about gas mileage?

I see a lot of guys here going gaga over their mileage.I have never checked what I get on any truck I`ve ever owned.I`m just a working class guy,not wealthy by any means but when I go looking for a truck,if I see what I want,I buy it.Mileage is never a consideration.Your going to have to put gas in it to drive it..
Do all you guys check what your getting per gallon?

Jim.....

I knew what I was getting into when I bought my truck. I do check it. I was disappointed when I thought I was getting crappy mileage but I don't really worry about it because I am like you, you have to buy gas anyway. I added the exhaust first then the intake and tuner. I will be through my first tank of gas with all three mods on at the sametime so I will continue to monitor the mileage just to see if the mods have helped any. So for me it is more curiosity than worrying about it.

I'm not too worried about gas mileage, but my wife is. Her 2004 Chevy Malibu with the 3.5L V6 averages 26 mpg in mixed driving. So we use her car for trips around town and my truck for vacation travel pulling our 4500 lb travel trailer (which is why I bought a truck).

i just see the mileage as part of the deal when you own a truck...you sacrifice something with every different kind of vehicle, whether its ground clearance, cargo space, visibility in traffic...etc.

Given the miles Driven per yr for me, 25000.
Over 5 yrs time @ 2.00/gal = $4000 more than
I would have spent owning the GMC V8 I had(It got 17-18mpg)... Thats alot of michelob light......

i just put in $50 every time i go to the gas station. it almost gives me a full tank.

it costs about the same as my old 4runner, which i used to fill up every week at $35 or so; the FX4 take $50 every week and half - two weeks.

but has a better ride; it's tons quieter; and i can carry/haul more stuff!

I used to check it at the beginning. I wanted to compare it to my '99. The '99 scab 2wd had a v6 in it. The '04 with small v8 (scab 4x4) actually did alot better with milage, especially when towing. I was just happy to see going to a v8 4x4 was better in milage. Now in the winter, as long as it starts and gets threw snow, I'm happy. If milage was an issue, I'd have to sell the boat and ice fishing gear. And that aint gonna happen. Best tank fill up $58.00 I love to laugh at the clerks in the gas station when they see how much it takes to fill. They're more surprised then I am. Buy a truck to drive a truck.

Well when the mileage is displayed right on the message center, sure I see it. Would I calculate it all the time if that wasn't there? Probably not.

but i will admit that before i bought it, i read all these posts about 18mpg and i was really excited about that. after the first 3 tanks at 14.5 mpg, i just accepted that it's the same as that old v6 4runner. no gain/no loss on the gas bill. maybe i'll get the supertuner - i've read it gives more power AND better mileage. but then again it also costs $$$ up front. so for now, i just drive it. i'll say it's nice to be able to go 300+ miles before filling up. the 4runner was maxed at about 240 miles.

I check it all the time, I don't know why cuz it isn't gonna change. I can afford it, not happily, but I'm not buying gas instead of...something else

I traded in a Ranger on my SCREW, so I wasn't worried about the mileage. I have checked it a few times and have gotten 15-16.5 around town and around 19 on the highway.

Listen up, you guys who don't care about your gas mileage, In Iraq are some great young Americans fighting for us and our fuel!!. Oh many can argue about why we are there but the bottom line is that our interest in the middle east is oil!!
These kids can only dream about the day they could tool around in a new f-150 and lead the kind of life that most of us f-150 owners are leading, and I hope that day will come they deserve it. but some will never make it back to persue those dreams. They are giving there lives, I think that the least we can do is be unsatisfied with our fuel mileage, I think ford could do better, what do you think?

Before this gets political ( to late) It's either fight them there or over here. It is not just an oil thing and I wish some people over here would just open their single party minds and see it. My brother in law in Bagdad says it isn't that bad. His hotel in the green zone even has air conditioning. He is considering going back over after he retires out of the military. He drives a Chevy scab 4x4 so he's not really to worried about his milage either. I believe in supporting our troups no matter who is in the White House. It's funny how people only agree to world matters by who runs the country for 4 years. Red state or Blue state shouldn't matter.
If you want lower prices, maybe we should start a little oil exploring of our own. Oh thats right, that was brought up 4 years ago and DC nipped it in the bud.

my advertised mpg is 14-18. i average 14.5-15. so it's not that i don't care about it; it's just what the truck gets. i accept that as i accept having my truck. i can get a prius for alot less money than my fx4 and pay for a lot less gas; but i'd be making a heck of a lot of trips (and thus gas and time) to the dump and it'll be pretty stinky inside, too. so i'm happy with mine. are you with yours?
