1988 Ranger 2wd to 4wd
I have a 1988 Ford Ranger 2wd, 2.9 and manual transmission that I would like to make 4wd. I also have a 1988 Bronco II 4wd, 2.9, automatic transmission (A4LD) with a manual shift transfer case that does not run. I would like to know if I could just attach the transfer case to my manual transmission or if I would have to swap transmissions?

Also, you need that front driveshaft and axle...and a crossmember or two (engine x-member maybe) and torch that x-member out to jam the 4wd version in place, which has never been noted as an easy job or one that can be slacked on....

It is very easy to do, just like the F-150's. They use the same frame for 2wd and 4wd. Everything is the same. Unbolt the twin I beams from the radius arms and bolt the TTB in place. For the trans to fit to the transfer case, you will have to change the tail shaft housing and probably the tailshaft from a 4wd trans.
