Just bought a 99 Explorer XLT, what should I look out for?

Just bought my first Explorer, 99 XLT, automatic, 4.0 SOHC, 90K miles. Besides the well documented IAC issues, what other potential issues/chronic problems should I be on the lookout for? Thanks in advance!

I had a 98 4.0 with close to the same mileage that started to run rough when cold but ran fine when it got to operating temp. It turned out to be the o rings the seal the intake. Just a bit of info that happened to me.

I have a '99 with the 4.0 sohc. also had the O ring intake manifold problem (I think everyone has it). Another common problem is the air bag light flashing 3-7. It's a connection under the passenger seat that comes loose, usually from someone kicking it (my mother in law) in the back seat.

That's one of the 1st problems I was able to fix (the dealer wanted 2-300 bucks for a new harness) thanks to the many great people on this board.

I also learned a lot about oil & filters, where the tissue box goes, (some of you will get that one), & where to have my mother in law sit.

I would also have the transmission flushed if you're not sure of when or if it's been done.

Well ... intake o-rings leak cause bad idle in the cold, transmission valve body seals cause slipping, IAC for idle problems, make sure the Firestones got taken off, if you have the combo cd/cass stereo the display is a problem, ball joints, abs light is probably the rear diff sensor, air bag fault 36 and 37 are the connectors under the front seats, and no heat or no a/c is probably the blend door (message sticky on the main page). Good luck.

Oh yeah, the timing chain rattle is a major one, expensive and every 4.0 sohc has the problem (if it hasn't already been repaired).
