I have a 2000 F350 4X4 and I need to replace the ball joints on the passengers side both upper and lower. I would like to do them myself. I've changed ball joints on two wheel drive vehicles before but I've never delt with 4 wheel drive. My concern is the front axles. Can anyone suggest a good manual. I have a Chiltons but it's clear as mud. Any suggestions or information on removing the knuckle would be appreciated.
I just did mine and I did all 4 of them and replaced the 2 steering u-joints while I had it all apart and it took me about 5 1/2 hours to do by myself.
WOW! You answered all my questions. I went to the site and printed it all out pictues and all. I'll get the parts and tools and try to get this done over the holidays. I'll let you know how I make out with it. I just want to say thank you. I'm still a new user and only posted a couple of times but there's no doubt this is a great site with good people. Thanks again.
For the big ford seal I found a 1 1/4" pipe about 3 feet long (which was over kill) and a floor drain flange and had to grind off about 1/2" off around the flange and then an end cap for my seal driver and it worked great.
refuse2: Thanks for the imput. I need all the help I can get. I plan on getting parts tomorrow so I'll have the seal in hand. I have everything you spoke about. I'll give it a shot.
Again thanks
Ya I still got some marks on my hand from were I slipped and missed the pipe but at least I'm not all over the road. I also had to adjust my gear box 1/4 of a turn and it took almost all my play out and it drives like a new truck, almost.
Finally got the ball joint job done. All went well. I followed the insturctions from the Bal...%20Installation site. They were on the money. The hardest part was getting the large seal installed. It took awhile but I came up with a plate that fit over the shaft and was just the right size to fit the inside of the seal then I used a large pipe and drive it into place. Again thanks for all the advise. It's good to know that there's a place to go when you need help and advice.
