Idea!
The last shop I took my '05 to replaced the EGR coolant lines (an all day task) because they said one of the lines had a small crack in it. The tech showed me the coolant tank cap and had me smell it. It smelled like exhaust and he said that the crack was allowing the coolant and exhaust to mix which may have pressurized the tank. So if the crack is there and the lines are buried under the manifold, could it be that the fluid is leaking out and burning off on the engine so you would not see it?

Coolant Leak Too...
I To Have A Coolant Leak On O3 6.0 Cc Fx4, Had It Into Ford For 3 Days Couldn't Find Were It Was Coming From , It Seems To Be Leaking From The Passenger Side Rear Of The Block Above The Freeze Plugs , It Seems To Leak Only After Parking It After Trips Of 45 Miles Or More. I Think You Are Onto Something About The Egr Valve I'll Mention It To My Mechanic. Thanks Z-man

I hate to sing this song because I got tired of hearing it myself but here goes, You may need to find another dealer...... Whew, not as hard as I thought it would be It took me 6 visits to my dealer PLUS a visit from the Field NOservice Rep before the service mgr (and everyone here) suggested (ie: harped) that I take it to someone else. That dealer immeadiatly replaced the EGR coolant lines, which was approved by hotline because the tech must have phrased it right. This was after hotline said no more fixes for me! Although it did not repair my problem it is worth a try since the pressure HAS to be coming from somewhere. If it is not a head gasket then the only other place I can think where water comes near something that can add pressure is the EGR coolant lines. They will have to dis-assemble the top half of the motor to get to them but it may be just what fixes you. Try smelling the cap to the holding tank and see if the smell doesn't match antifreeze. If that is the case have the service mgr do the same and suggest that he do what was done to my truck.
Good luck.....
