AX, I did electrostatic plating for 7 years. I stand corrected, you can plate stainless, but it's very costly if your going to go through the processes of chemical treatment to the metal. I was thinking the metal itself has no magnetic properties and therefore makes it hard to conduct electricity for the nickel/ chrome etc to adhere to the metal. Thanks for clearing that up though. I'm with you, why plate stainless? Just get it buffed out. Looks nice and lasts.

My trucks been sitting for awhile. The headers have some rust on them now including a few pinholes. I'm getting the truck back on the road and was going to buy new headers, but I'd prefer to have mine ceramic coated (they were custom welded). Would the coating work over surface rust and cover the pinholes, or am I out of luck?

fiftford - My old headers were very pitted and they turned out well. The finish on them isn't totally smooth like a new set would be, but they work great and look 100% better than they did.

Rust can be cleaned off and pinholes welded closed and ground smooth. Go for it.

the voice of $$$$$$$$$$ experience says to have the mounting flange blanchard ground before coating your headers, this will give a much better seal and eliminate leaks around the flange. good luck

Deuced - Blanchard grinding is a machining method to apply a very flat surface to the header flanges. It uses a very large flat grinding disk to average a surface into a flat plane. A milling machine or other kinds of grinders can also be used. It is just important to get the flange as flat as possible for best sealing.

David, blanchard ground refers to a method of planing a large surface to a very close tolerance, think of it as planing a cylinder head or an intake manifold. There are shops here in Tucson who can do it. I believe Townsend performance could do the rams horns if they really need to be done.
