I put an K & N FIPK and a magnaflow muffler on my '03. Got a couple mpg increase AND some extra power. Plus it sounds a little better too. It was just what this doctor ordered.
What impact did removing the convertor have on emissions results? I've heard that on the newer engines, the secondary convertors don't significantly impact emissions. I ask as my truck has to be emission tested every year.
I didn't touch the cat, just hacked off the stock muffler and but dual pipes out the back. I live in CA, so I too have to be mindful of the beloved California air resource board. Even with the intake kit, I bugged K & N for over 3 months to get CARB to certify the FIPK for my '03, even though it is exactly the same unit that also fits on the '99-02's. Talk about jumping through hoops...geez.
Thats one reason why I recently picked up a '69 F100 with a 390 for my daughter to drive. I can exact a little revenge on the smog restrictions by running an open system on a screaming FE motor in an old pickup.
More TAKE OFF than ADD! Get rid of the "Y" pipe and cat if you can. On my 01 the "Y" pipe was cremped down to about an inch on each side. I ran duals no cats with flows and picked up mileage.

Sometimes I slowly increase speed up to 40mph and slowly back off the pedal so it dropes to the 4th or 5h gear and then I started speeding up , I noticed the average mpg stays in higher numbers at least from that point on , and again like everybody else here already has said before , don’t press that pedal to he metal

I've got a 2000 CC F-350 2wd and a V10. If I grandpa it, I get 17mpg. Most of your mileage gains will be in how you drive. 👍
