SES and Codes 1292 & 1299 on 4.6l '03 Expedition
I have a 4.6L '03 Expedition EB with about 16K miles on it. It has been a reliable car so far without any issues.
It was a cold night here... just about 30 degrees. This morning when I turned the car on it was running pretty rough. Then the orange "Service Engine Soon" light and the red "Hi Temp Oil Low" light came on and the temperature guage moved all the way up passed "H". This is pretty strange, as the car was freezing cold! The computer display said something like "temperature too high, cutting engine power" and I could sure tell that it was doing that.
I took the car to the nearby Auto Zone and they pulled two codes from the engine... The codes are P1292 and P1299.
When I got home, and turned the car back on after an hour, it ran much better and the temp guage was showing normal temp. The SES light is still on though.
Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on with this car?
Thanks,

P1299
I have been having a similar problem with my 97 F150, code P1299. The gauge doesn't ever show hot and the truck shows no symptoms of actually being HOT, but it just dies. It's totally random, but typically at stop lights, or while driving in OD lugging up hills. As soon as I restart it, it runs fine. Until last week, I had never gotten any MIL and code. I have no idea where to start. What ever came of the problem on your 03 Expy??? (Am actually going to first start by replacing the Cylinder Head Temp Sensor and then...???)
