Those radios are very scarce, and be prepared to spend $300 or more for one that's "as-is". You can get a 49 Merc car radio for around $75 or so and install it. The face of the truck radio is beige, the Merc is chrome. That's the only difference. The merc radio will need some side brackets made up to mount it in the dash of the truck. Alot of guys are going this route as the Merc radio is more available. You can always strip the chrome off the face as I've done and paint it, you'll never know the difference.

Right on Barry! I sold the original Zenith radio out of my '48 several years back for $400. It worked but needed a new vibrator. My recollection is that Philco also made radios for those years (48-50) The Merc's are absolutely much easier to find and consequently cheaper. I do not remember the guys name but do a search for antique radio repair on the net and make some calls/send emails. This gentleman sold the paint to do as Barry suggested--strip the chrome and paint beige. Also if you are 12 volt and non stock you can actually have the guts replaced with modern components and have FM and a CD changer. All appearances will be stock with a remote to control the functions--pretty cool actually. I believe this company was in Ft Worth TX. I welded up the dash and installed a Sony.

I have the right radio in the 50 F1 I just bought. I do not paln on reusing it as the truck will be modernized. The radio is out and I will take a picture of it this weekend. I beleive it is in working condition. I can be reached at twofords@comcast.net.

Dick,
What do you want for the radio? I'm in Connecticut, I did the swap on the 8BA-8RT heads a few years ago with you.

Radio

Yes, Barry I remember the head swap in Newington. Thank you. Not sure about the value of the radio. I don't want to sell something below fair value, nor do I wan't to screw anyone. I'll give you a call. I'd like you to see my project anyway.
