fabtech lift for 4.2

Im wanting to get the 3.5 inch performance lift kit for my 97 xl standard cab before summer comes around (i need that much time to save up). The problem is not buying the item, it's installing it. I have to have a pro mechanic to install it because i do not have the tools to deal with that big of equiptment. How much is an average install cost for something like that so i know im not getting ripped off.

Thanks to all those that resond

Endurance,

Hmm, well I installed my Fabtech 7.5" lift kit myself with a friend. No special toos were required except for 3 or 4 jacks and some jack stands and a torque wrench. It took us 2 full 8 hour days. I'd imagine, if the are charging by the hour, that the install costs would not be cheap, although I couldn't tell you how much they would be.

If there is any possible way you can do it yourself, I would highly recommend it. You'd be surprised at how much you'll learn about your trucks suspension system and how it works by taking it all apart and putting it back together again. Fabtech kits come with excellent instructions and the pieces bolt right up. They are also always available for any questions you might have during the install and will happily spend hours with you on the phone as your installing certain parts.

If you do decide to do the install yourself, i'd be more than happy to walk you through it. Check out my gallery to see the end results.

Good luck and have fun

Tom
