My 2000 f-250 4x4 ext cab w/ 3.73 rear yeilds roughly 300 miles a tank at 25 gal. I usually average 12.5 mpg with mixed city/hwy driving. Towing my boat in the summer, 3 days a week, brings me down to around 285.

My 2000 F350 DRW 640 miles towing, empty 1040 miles . I also have 39 gal main tank and a 50 gal aux tank in the bed. The big drawback is when it takes 80 gal at the pump .

Increase mileage on my V10 FX4 F250

Any ideas how to increase mileage. Anyone adapted the K&N cold air intake kits? Or the tornado-air? My truck is all stock and gives me 9mph around city. Any other ideas?

That is about all I can manage in town...9mph I think that is the problem, if you could go a little faster you could get better mileage

Ok, enough of the funny stuff. My truck gets about 9.5-10.5 around town. Maybe a little lower if the trailer is hooked up all four days between fill-ups and maybe a little higher if it is not hooked up at all. Actually it has gotten better for the most part in my 4 months of owning it. The average has gone up about 1-1.25 mpg. I am not really disappointed with the mileage, but more the price of the fuel I debated putting a K&N drop in filter in it when I changed the filter a couple weeks ago, but decided it wasn't going to really do anything for me. I don't think any vehicle I have ever owned that had a K&N ever picked up any mileage so I decided against it.

I have never owned a Tornado intake thingy, nor will I. At least I wouldn't tell anyone about it if I did I have never seen anyone that had one ever increase their fuel mileage. I have seen Mustangs dyno'd that showed a loss of power with them though

Interestingly enough the local Fox affiliate did a test with one on an Explorer or something. They picked up a whopping 2.5 mpg. There test consisted of claiming to fill the tank, driving 40 miles, filling up again, putting the device in, driving another 40 miles then filling the truck up a third time. Far from scientific in my book I did not see them filling the tank to the neck and my guess is that had a lot to do with the improvement they saw. 40 miles proves nothing. It is not surprising they had a link to buy them on their site

After I saw that I was trying to find another "investigative report" that would have done a more accurate test of this product. I found it at KIROTV.com. The reporter that did that article turns out to be a guy who was here in the Orlando market several years back. Their test was a month long rather than 40 miles long. They used AAA fleet service trucks for the test. They used the Tornado, Fuel Saver Pro and the Super Fuel Max. The latter two are supposedly the same thing marketed under different names, a magnetic device. For the heck of it they put a piece of duct tape on a fourth vehicle as it's fuel saving mod. The magnet based mods did 3-5% worse on fuel. The Tornado showed a 5.3% increase. Sounds encouraging until they said the truck with the piece of duct tape picked up 6% I have a feeling if you slap a piece of duct tape on your truck, you too will be $60 ahead

I have a 03 with 3.73 ls. I get 13.5 in town and 16.5 on the highway which I don't think is too bad for all the power I get from the V10. Only mod I have is K& n drop in filter which got me an extra 1/2 MPG.

Interesting note my buddy got his SD with in a month of me and he got the 6.0 PSD and gets 14 mpg regardless of city or highway, Just one more reason I don't think the extra 6 grand he spent is worth it.

And duct tape is much cheaper than the tornado. Thanks Keith.

I don't have any planned hauling- no trailers. So I decided against the 6.0 diesel. This truck is more of a toy than a worker. Also figured on guys' night out, I wouldn't want to wake my neighborhood up as I drove in late (or my wife )! i know the engine noise is improved, but I understand there is extra maintenance on the diesel than on gas. Figured it wasn't for me. Hope I made the right decision. Thanks Birddog.

Unhappy

I have a 2002 f250 4x4 v10 SC LB. 9.6 MPG is all I get. I pull a 5th wheel trailer. 38 gal. tank. Of course I don't run it dry. You do the math.Is there a way to squeeze more MPG out of it? I'm going to try a K&N air filter and Flowmaster exhaust. Any other ideas out there?

That'll kill your mileage, guaranteed. They say it increases your mpg but it won't. You'll want to hear the deep sound the intake makes and then the keep on the gas through the powerband with the exhaust. Even if you're gentle on the throttle, you won't get better mileage. You (and myself) have a v-10. You're going to get crappy mileage. If you want better mileage you might want to look into the 5.4 (or the diesel).

I get about 8mpg with my truck, and I stand there proud at the pump holding up the lines while I fill up (38 gal tank).

Thumbs up mileage

Automatic with 4:30 gears--just made a 1,420 mile round trip in 1-1/2 days. 10 mpg deadheading at 75 mph and 8.1 pulling empty 3 horse Sooner trailer with full living quarters(6,000#)at 75 mph. Never gotten any better but sure have done worse. And, this baby is broken in with 98,000 miles--great workhorse and so much more quiet than the PSD. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!

My truck is a 2000 crew cab long bed. I have gone 300 miles on a 1/2 tank. I usually get 15.5, 14.5 mpg but I do a lot of highway driving. towing it.s between 13 and 9 depending on the weight. Around town it's always in the 9 to 10 range.

I drive streets to work, 10 miles. If I do no freeway driving at all I get about 240-250 on about 23 gallons. I've gotten an average of almost 16 cruising at 60-65 empty, or about 360. 35" tires, 4.30 ls 4x4 auto.

I find that on my truck that 55 to 65 is the optimal speed on the highway for mileage with the stock tires on my rtuck and the 3.73 rear. I have seen as high as 16 to 16.7 on long long flat highways just trying to see what kind of mileage i can get out of this hog.
