V-10 Regrets?

V-10 Regrets?
Just curios if anyone has regreted not getting the 6.0 diesel. I am in the process of looking at trucks, and I have a good lead on a 03 f-250 cc sb 4x4 v-10, with 18,000 miles on it, they are asking 32.000.00 but I will offer alot less, 26,000 or 27,000. I originally wanted a diesel but the price is getting a little out of hand. This will not be a daily driver I have a van pool that my work provides to me and I take it home, so this would be a weekend driver and river runner, I also have a 5/6, 000 lb boat I tow, on ocasion. What are your thoughts

But with only 6000 lbs I wonder why you want to go with a super duty
Right now I am towing with a Expedition, and my boat is 25.2 long, not counting the outdrive and length of the tounge maybe 28/29 feet. You can fell every little bump or wind sway as you go down the road, my days of towing with 1/2 ton trucks are over. Also the crew cab f-250's back seat have way more room than the f-150

I have owned both. My one month old 6.0 broke down Christmas Eve 03 and was out of service for a month. Over the next four months I had a couple of more problems and with the help of Ford and a straight up dealer traded the truck in for an ordered V10. I love the V10 and have every reason to believe I will be driving it this Christmas Eve. Truth be told however I really miss driving that diesel, it was a true thrill. The testament to the V10 is that I no longer lay in bed at night thinking about my engine.

Regrets...No Way
Hey,
If you live in MI, I'll sell you my 03 F350 (loaded Crew Cab) with a V-10. I want a 05 and am 110% forsure gonna order another V10. The only regret I have is that I didn't get a Super Duty with a V-10 until last year. I wish I would have done it sooner.
Great Power
Quiet
Reliable
Happy with the Gas Mileage
Everyone asks about the V-10.

Bought my 04 V10 in August from our local dealer. Got a little over 5K on it now. I never looked at a diesel because I didn't want one. I pull a 3.5K boat and a 5K travel trailer. Everything is stock right now other than the 2 inch Tuff County rear add-a-leaf. I am financing for 60 months. The diesel would be fine for someone pulling a much larger trailer and more often than I do. The majority of my trailering is to the local lake and back, which is less than a 15 mi. round trip. The 150 would pull fine what I have, but the 250 has much more room in the back. We are a family of four with long legged kids. I have more truck than I need for pulling, but it is used much more for other things. I am also quite pleased with the gas mileage. I hardly ever run over 62 or 63 on the four lanes. At that speed to Houston and back I averaged over 16 mpg, not bad at all. I wasn't pulling a trailer. Financing an extra four or five grand for a diesel doesn't make sense for what I do with my truck.

No, no way, no how! I love the power, the sound and the cost of services. I tow 5k in the mountains of BC and do not regret getting the V10 to do the job, which it does very well.

When I bought my 2001 Platinum Edition 4x4 CC SB w/V10 I still owned a PSD 7.3L manual 4x4. We needed another truck and I was NOT shoping for the Platinum OR V10 motor, in fact was leaning towards a supercab 4x2 plain jane with base V8. My dealer had gotten two of the Platinums in, one V10, and one PSD. The PSD jumped off the lot but the V10 hung on for 9 months. They had it MSRP at $39+K and red taged down to $37K. I made them a $28K offer (about what the XLT I was looking at was). We negociated just a tad above my offer and I took the Beautiful V10 home for under $29K.
My wife and son were primary users while my narrow minded butt still tinkered and maintained my Stroke. The 7.3 went down hard for long maintenance and I had to drive the sacriligious V10 automatic for a couple of weeks and a long trip with heavy load out to Arizona. Came home a convert, and unless some day I need to haul mega tonnage probably will never subject myself, or my family, to the pains and expense of diesel noise, and power again.
I did not buy the PSD new, but paid a premium for the used truck because of that motor. Like most, I added a ton of cash in go fast stuff. Like most I babied her and did most of my own services. The fellow who bought her did not care that she had over 400HP and would rip the treads off the rear tires within 500 yards. He was impressed enough in my maintenence log and receipts to give what I asked. End of long deisel story.
I am now on my second V10 and was so impressed with the first, that I bought the 05 3valve TorqueShift sight unseen, or tested, as the very first family purchase of a "factory ordered" truck.
Talk about nervous and impatient. What a thrill to be there when she was delivered and be the first person (outside of the assembly folks) to turn the key! What was even better is to sit in my new truck and have to look at the tach to see that there is a motor running. No more do I have to turn the radio to warp 5 to hear the news or music. No more shouting to my wife for another beer (oops! I mean soda ;>} ).
To be fair, I love the V10 because it has more than enough power for my needs. It is MUCH quieter, and she requires infinately less tinkering and maintenance. But I do have a few 6.0L PSD friends, family, and co-workers. I am super impressed that Ford managed to dramatically reduce the cabin noise in the new 05 PSD. Unfortunately most of the folks who have them deliberatly defeated this with ultra loud exhaust systems. Go figure, to each his own I guess.
The PSD, V10 and 3 valve variable timed V8 are all great motors. I truely believe the $600 V10 is the best of both worlds. No it will not out pull the PSD with heavy loads up the mountain. But it WILL pull the load. No it does not have the higher resale value. On the other hand it did not have as high an initial buy in cost. The V10 is strong, quiet, and pretty much only requires standard fluid and filter maintenance for the first five or so years or when ever she gets into the 100K-120K life range.
As much as I enjoy our "family" debates over what motor is better, I have to deflect some of this "argument" by stating that I also have a business where we exclusivly buy trucks for their ability and long service. We researched, and tested much of the Dodge and Chevy line, and I will categorically state that the Ford SuperDuty, reguardless of what motor, is a superior work-horse and the best bang for the buck!
