No fuel 6,0

I have an 03 Ford 6.0 diesel ran out of fuel when I filled it with fuel it ran for a few minutes and then died no fuel in the fuel bowl so I tow it home the next morning it still would not start I could hear the fuel pump running but there was no fuel in the fuel bowl so I pushed it in the garage and put the battery charger on it after about 30 minutes it started right up and has been running fine up and down the driveway up and down the road idling all day should I still replace the fuel pump I was told it could still be a bad fuel pump from running out of fuel

I don't think you understand the point of my question, but I'll assume that the poor pumping issues happened with a full tank. If so, then that would drastically reduce the odds of the problem being related to a failure in the fuel tank pick-up tube.

I think I would do two bubble tests.
One test is to look for bubbles when you are filling the secondary fuel filter bowl.
The other is to fill the secondary fuel filter bowl and crank the engine by jumpering the starter solenoid wire - look for bubbles when cranking.

A fuel pressure gauge would be helpful also.

No I ran the tank empty and didn't know it because the gauge wasn't working
